    Hi Guys,
Spent most of December 2009 on Macenata island - Pisane lodge. Approximately 8 hours drive from JHB. Lovely camping, will definately go again!!

Yes, but nothing serious. Others have caught some nice Cuta / Barracuda, Tuna & Galjoen. If I had a decent boat I am sure that I would have caught enough fish to sell amongst the other campers to pay for the entire holiday!

Lovely place - I've been there alot, almost bought Xefina Grande (little Island off the Southern point) at one stage. Use to go to Inhaca, Santa Maria and Portugese Island almost on a daily basis to play. Still own some property in Catembe. There is also some nice scuba diving spots at Baixe Danae North of Inhaca.

Wanting to catch enough fish to sell to others to pay for a holiday is in my opinion criminal, bag limits do not always apply in Mozambique and just considering doing something like that raises serious concern for me. Never mind posting it on a forum.
I have been visiting and working in Mozambique for the last 17 years frequently and have see this kind of behaviour on many occasions, one example guys going out fishing and when the boat can't handle more fish they still carry on fishing, gaffing and releasing the fish just to wash up on the beach the next day.
The amount of fish that came out off the Moz coast was unbeleivable from the first years I spent there (1993) and over the years there has been vast reduction in catches due to, ok admittedly the long liners but also from the "recreational" fisherman who give dozens of fish away on a daily basis.
We are raping that country because of the greed of some people and hope this post would make people stop and think about what they are doing. This is everyone's responsibility.

One must be objective when making comments like that. Many times I have looked on in amazement when 6 or more trawlers pounding 24 hours a day for days on end a reef with nets taking that landed in their nets stripping the reef of everthing. On Macaneta the nets line the coast as far as the eye can see.Who are stripping the fish? 99,9% our fishermen know how to behave. When trawling in a skiboat you easely use 4 cans off fuel a day.

Mmmm....the comment was actually aimed to explain the abandunce of fish still available when surf fishing. However, during my entire stay at the island I only saw the local fishermen's nets and this was between 4 and 6 in the mornings. But then that is my humble opinion in answer to Kalamazoo. LOL!!!!!!
