Thank you very much for the comments Horrace and Birdranger, think I should include some settings next time. Spot metering (nikon d610 full frame, nikkor 200-500 and then second image was nikkor 70-200 ) was used and I usually under expose and add a dark vignette. I like the darker brighter colours and get a bit carried away sometimes .

Had the privilege going with Niel Cilliers and Jo Buggs Balmer to Zaagkuildrift and got to play with our new camera Nikon d850 , but I need to figure out a lot and now it seesm the long glass needs to improve but no funds for that.

excuse the bad pratincole and cuckoo, still figureing out 3d tracking and settings What do you use for the birds in flight again Peter?

    Nice Gif!

I have the D500 set up such that I can easily change between single point, dynamic and group area, using just the thumb and middle finger of my right hand. Thus I can change this while shooting.

I use dynamic when the bird is above the horison, and group when it's below. Single-point is used for stationary stuff.

I have never tried the D500's 3-D tracking on birds. Tried it on the D750, but it was pretty useless. However, the D500's Dynamic with face-detection does work pretty well for people.
