That’s sad - my honeyguide about to hatch - saw a lesser honeyguide sneaking out the crested barbet nest and they are sitting again - this was about 2 weeks after they successfully fledged a youngster. Dufous is the name of the crested barbet because he continually fights with the window. Yesterday he was shouting and I went out to see what was going on - there was a cat in the garden - Dufous suddenly got all brave and between us we chased him out the garden.
Finally got rid of that annoying sound in the 4x4, opened the door and pushed him out
Madagascar Cuckoo @ Soetdoring - left at 04h30 yesterday for Bloem with Niall Perrins - with the whole of JHB leaving at 04h00 due to curfew Traffic was a bit hectic, after the toll roads it settled down.

Thread is quiet, seems like everyone is out and about taking photos!
It’s been months since I had my camera in my hands, so it was good to get out this weekend. Took these at Oyster Bay:

So when we came back from December holidays, we noted there where two birds that don't normally frequent our garden, I identified them as the Yellow Canary. Soon we noted that they where seemingly sleeping in one of the liquid amber trees, and soon after that I peeked into the tree and saw a nest. A few days after that I peeked in again, and noted there was two chicks! This was such a pleasant surprise and we continued to monitor their movements every day (both my wife and I work from home). I have attached a few photos (none as high quality as some examples here, but it helps tell the story). Until yesterday we saw them around the garden, but it seems they have now left our garden since this morning (to rejoin the bigger group perhaps?) Any comments would be great!

Amazing,
We don't get the yellow canary in Durban... Brqut of all the others that we do they will not come into the yard... I they sit on the wall, in the driveway and on the verge but will not come in...
Nice pics

Lots of these youngsters in the garden since last week. Beautiful
This is a sad story.
This is Edgar, the Crowned Eagle chick that we have been monitoring for a few months.
I took this photograph of him on Sunday.
His mother was killed when she was hit by a car on Monday.
Edgar is too young to hunt.
The owner of the house where the nest is, managed to feed him today, and will do so until the permits are ready to take him to a shelter in Grahamstown.

this Cardinal Woodpecker visited last week. Been a long time since I saw one of these here.
These two showed off their little one yesterday. Came quite close to the house and were not skittish at all. They normally shiek and scream to high heaven when having youngsters. Southern Spotted Thick knee.
