Very tough conditions out at Mkuze this weekend, after 400mm of rain, the animals and birds for that matter are scattered widely. Sightings few and far between.

Did get 2 lifers though, African crake and blue mantled flycatcher

Got into the confidence of a goliath heron on the lower orange river.
Eventually got to within 3m of it, totally unconcerned with my presence! Not sure if anyone has experienced this?

    Wow!

I have always found them very shy and retiring, but birds act differently in different areas.

A strange interaction. I started taking photos of the Heron at about 20m which was the closest I had ever got to a heron. I moved a bit closer, it flew off but not far. Again I followed. Repeated this a few times over about two hours until I was sitting in the water just below it.
At this point it was on its nest, doing some maintenance, preening itself. Really thought provoking experience.

A little surprised that I had taken over 500 photographs of this one bird...

Gif, it takes time to get used to a camera, these are quiet good for 1st outing!
Remember the eye, you got to get the eye. Set-up the D750 properly, use back focus and shoot manual, using auto ISO to support the required SS at your selected f of 7.1 or what ever you used.

By the way it would be easier to comment and contribute if we could have the setting you / Salome used.
    Did you shoot RAW?
