Ja, heat seeking missiles are wasted on those things, all you need is an optical sensor that can find the darkest smoke and home in on that.

Jaco Jnr on finals this past Saturday at Virginia in very windy conditions. But he got it down beautifully. His training is ticking along nicely and I can tell he is enjoying it tremendously - but not nearly as much as his old man👍👍😀😀

One can find nice Buffalo bulls to hunt these days for around R 50 000. And a nice .470 Nitro Express Double rifle can be had 2nd hand for about R 100 000 - just the thing for that Buffalo.

Or you can enroll your son for his PPL.

However, that is not the painfull part.

Once done with PPL and having spend a nice Buffalo & nice rifle comes his commercial ticket (hopefully - if it all works out).

    You can find very nice 2nd hand Porsche Cayman's for around R 600 000 - R 800 000..........

Once you have not done your Buffalo hunt and the space for the Porsche is still empty in your garage, your son will at least have a Commercial Lisense, with basically zero experience (hopefully - if it all works out).

Which means that he is still going to be working almost for free to "build" hours/experience for a while still.

Now you cannot start saving for the Buffalo hunt & Porsche because he is still eating your steaks and drinking your beer (because he is still a pauper) and that ain't cheap.

However, I could not give up a Buffalo hunt & Porsche for a nicer chap and my best buddy ever.

Nope. That ain't gonna fly with me.

If he wants wings that goes around above his head - he better wants to start saving.

When I got my cpl with twin if ( about 30 years ago) the cost was the same as a brand new golf gti.It is still about the same as a brand new golf gti today. Only difference is a new golf is very different to a golf2/3, but the poor guy doing his license today is still flying the same aircraft I did my license in all those years ago.
