Doogles... It's where all overlanders and Ex Pats hang out. They have Backpackers, camping or double rooms....

Don't have contact details, sorry, but you can as the Protea Hotel in Blantyre for that.

Doogles may not be to your taste. We arrived on a Saturday evening after dark after having it recommended to us by the Malawian tourism department's representative at the border (his job was to extricate any tourists from the crowds of Malawian migrant workers returning home at Christmas from South Africa and fast track the formalities - we were through in no time at all). It's in a part of the town which closely resembles Joburg's Noord Street with the attendant crowds and noise even at night.

Once inside the pervasive aroma was that of the finest of Cape Maclear (aka "The Cape of Good Dope").

It didn't take long to figure out that sleep would be impossible that night and we moved off to Ryalls Protea Hotel (from the ridiculous to the sublime comparatively speaking!)

I don't have experience of anything else in Blantyre. I recall that there may be a suitable place in the adjoining town of Limbe but don't recall the details.

I took all the marketing photographs for the Ryalls, but always thought it to be out of Overlanders Budget.... It's a Protea, so you can check rates etc. on their website

Sunbird Hotels is a new chain and is all over the place.

We eat at Doogles often but can see the accommodation is basic. Ryalls is more upmarket and expensive. there are other options such as Fishermens Rest but is about 20km outside of Blantyre. Or perhaps Satemwa Tea estate. Try google theeye magazine as they have all the contact for accommodation in Blantyre and throughout Malawi.
