    Default Tsabong to Mabuasehube

We will be visiting Mabuasehube in March this year. Can anyone please give me some info on the road between Tsabong and Mabua? We will be towing trailers. How long does it take from Tsabong to Mabua? How difficult are the road conditions?

Only just bought our Echo trailer that we tow with a '98 Prado 3.4l auto. Fuel consumption between Paarl and J'Bay was approx 5.5km / l. What can we expect in the thick Kalahari sand?

    Hi Carl
Did it about 5 years ago with a touroperator. We exited from Mabua towards Tsabong. The road is sandy with the occasional thick patch but nothing too serious. The only thing I can remember clearly is that it's quite bumpy. It feels like you're driving on a choppy sea, up-down-up-down....We bushcamped one nightnext to the road but I think we left late in the morning so if you make an early start you might make it to Mabua in one day although I'm not certain. Fuel consumption should be around 3-4km/lt. Enjoy

    Thanks Granlor.
    Fuel consumption ..... OUCH!!!!
Well, I still reckon it is a small price to pay for the opportunity of doing such a trip into the wilderness. I think I will just have to put the roofrack on as well to carry a few extra jerry cans of fuel. The 90 litre tank plus an additional 80 litres in J'cans should be enough to get us to Mabua, for 5 days in and around Mabua and the trip to Nossob where we can refill.

Allow a full day for the trip to Nossob. Some really thick Kalahari sand in places and a few sand dunes to cross. I would definately recommend you take 80lt extra. i had my standard and long range tanks full and that was enough for the trip from Nossob to Tsabong with some sightseeing trips in Mabua included.

Thanks for the advice. We will be staying over at Matopi, between Mabua and Nossob on our way to Polentswa.

I think 80 litres of extra fuel it will be.

Uhm - Let me rephrase...Is there a fuel station near Tsabong or if coming from Gaborone is Jwaneng the last fuel spot?

Tsabong has fuel stations in town. On the other route, Jwaneng is the last reliable fuel source before Mabua, and keep the cutline in mind as well. It is a shorter distance from Tsabong to Mabua than from Jwaneng, and with fuel a possible issue I will take the route with the shortest distance from the last refuel.

The road between Tsabong and Mabua does vary a lot depending on conditions. We have done that distance in less than 4 hours @ one time and about 7 hours another.

We did the trip in November 09 with landrover discovery 3 and jurgens xt140 trailers no problems at all.

The sand is thich but it is easy to drive. last fuel is at Tsabong but be aware that you need to have pulas to pay.

Hi Jovico, did you calculate your fuel consumption for the trip?
Any idea of the petrol price in Bots at the moment?

Hi Carl, I was there last month. Here is a couple of pics of the road to Mabu. Some of the other pfotos (thatch house) is a place, guesthouse - 6 km before the border post. Check it out for a overnight before you go to Mabu the next day. The place belong to Ans Du Preez, fantastic people and pleasant place. Her place is about 5 hours drive from Mabu gate. you won't have a problem with a trailor, just keep your tires down to 1.2 bars.
Wish I was you, lovely place

    Dankie Dries
Great fotos.

    Hoe was die grenspos gewees?

Soos my kinders sÍ: "ons tel almal die slapies af", kan nie wag nie.
