Default Very Dumb Question Re TD 5 Defender 110 Transfer Box Oil Plug

Hi - this is probably a very stupid question but since I have accepted ages ago that I am by no means mechanically minded, I think that I am entitled to ask such questions.

There is a small oil leak on my TD5's transfer box (one or two drpos in the morning) and want to top the oil up. I have gathered that the correct tool to remove the filler plug with is a socket/rachet (3/4" I think).

My question is: is the filler plug the plug on the exhaust side of the transfer box which takes a hell of a tight squeeze to get to with the rachet? I just don't want to end up putting oil down the wrong holes!!

Anything I should be aware / careful of in topping the oil up and/or removing the plug?

Thanking you guys in advance for your input.

Hey, I dunno if my old landy and the td5 have the same configuration, but for mine, the filler point is on the verticle face pointing to the rear of the car.

I dont really have any tips, its a pretty simple operation, I guess the best tip is dont lie directly under the filler point when you open it, that oil stinks like hell and is a mission to get off.

IIRC yes. It is on the vehicle's left hand side (you sit inside facing forward) of the LT230 case. Yes it is a squeeze to undo, and a bad, potentially dirty squeeze getting the oil in. Have some news papers on teh floor before you start

LOL! As long as it does not bite me in the backside . However, I think anything more than a wheel or oil change will still be referred to those in the know (for now)
