Default Suzuki GV2.4 Auto - First shakedown at Hennops

    • Track Length - 5.3km
    • Area covered - 16,198 Sq m
    • Elapsed time - 02:56
    • Avg speed - 2Km/h
    • Altitude - 1242m-1291m
    • Navigator - a brilliant wife in sandals and no hat.
    • Camera operator - Son who prefers tar and going fast
    • Damages - Tow Bar electronic socket broke off

Obstacle one to check the crossover, she touched slightly (reminder to self it's not an air suspensioned Rangey)

Then the axle twister cocking its hind leg then its front with no mess or fuss. With the diffs locked no problem pulling on the two wheels touching the ground

Three through to eight were fine with the occasional walkabout to ensure we dont plant a rock in the sump. 200mm isnt too bad if you have a wife walking ahead and shouting the odds

Then we found a few crossroads with no signage and basically just kept going right past #9 and #10

Rocky Hill an van Zyl's pass we skipped for another day and car
Point #18 was next and no great concern downhill on long grass but no issues

Just before point 17 we had to do a 25 point turn as the car was too long and the turning circle too wide to avoid some rocks who were making a point about softroaders messing around in their back yard.

#17 to #18 was fun but under braking and no heroics we made it down to the rivers edge. AND HERE IT WENT slightly PEAR SHAPED

The track up to #20 is badly washed out, my right front wheel is on the river bank my left rear is way up in the air the car was inching towards the riverbed so my son had to hold the wheel from turning right (downhill) while i repaved the track with rocks.

The Mrs is walking ahead and identifying pretty 500kg pebbles i can use for paving the road.

Lesson #1 learned - dont attempt this with no other people around
Eventually we decided backtracking looked safer and if we got this far we can go back.

Lesson #2 learned - if you turn around everything looks different and the rocks you drove out 10 minutes ago now has to be replaced by hand and obstacles cleared going down needs more effort going up.

Lesson #3 Learned - Go before you go

Right now we pray for a diesel, the GV gets 8km/l on a very lucky day. And next week the traffic is back then there will be a wailing and a gnashing of teeth.

Only 2,000km on the clock so we hope it improves
