    Cool Shotr notice !!!!

An old friend of the KZNers (Sakkie) is visiting us and would like to play tomorrow.
    Venue Killarny4X4
    Time 9:00
For those who don't know the way, a convoy will leave from the Assagay hotel (Polo pony) at 9 meet 8:30.
This is more of a "Kuir" (sp) so a braai is on the cards, maybe a bit of mild to wild offroading. I don't know what Belinda and Hienz have to say. Let's surprise them. Lol.

    All are welcome.

Sorry Dirk, my camera is up north. And there was a couple of recoveries......eventually it was only Ben and myself that got to the waterfall. Killarney have some REAL offroad testers. Some of them borders on dangerous when wet. One can see that there hasn't been anyone in a while. The new owners is going to have their hands full to open up all the tracks again. It is seriously overgrown. The one section I remember from long time back only I did. For the rest of the guys, sanity prevailed. It took a lot of momentum and some degree of risk to get through. Several vehicles have already been written off here. It's a long rocky, loose gravel decent with very little, if any, grip. Once you're in, there is no turning around. Up the other side is a long, very slippery climb up the side of a cliff. It is here where guys have gone over the edge. It took a second attempt to get through. The rest of the guys had better judgement and turned around.

"Point of no Return", for the guys that remember it, is completely grown over. I took the Jeep down and up there a couple of years ago. Far too much respect for the Granny Van to do that to her. For the guys who don't know "Point of no Return"....it is SERIOUS pipe car territory. The average double lockers vehicles don't get out there.

Bob lost a sideshaft (we hope) on a sandy slope. The damage must have been done previously, cause it wasn't THAT bad a slope. Phillipe found out that his Defender is a rather nice Depth guage, and seeing that most of the guys wouldn't make the waterfall, he showed us one....out the Landy's doors.. There was no way of pulling him back, so Bob and myself had to find us a new crossing so we could pull him out forward.

The river wasn't wide, but at this normally tame crossing, the storm water washed it out MUCH deeper than what it used to be.....Phillipe found out the hard, or rather, wet, way. Trying to get back, he and I had to go back the way Bob and myself went. This had to be experienced to be believed. The one ditch gave the Granny Van the chance to recover the same Landy for the 2nd time.

It was absolutely GREAT to be out with the piesangboere again. With Bob and Ben there it almost felt like I was back home again!! I MISSED GRANT!!

If I'm back here between Christmas and New Year we've GOT to go do the Umgeni!!!

As for the KZNers...PLEASE go support the new owners of Killarney. They need you guys to come help open up the tracks again! I know where I'd have been every weekend......at R100 per outing for a whole day's fun it's and absolute steal.

Thanks guys for a super day, broken Landy included. Some old trails were reopened, and some were avoided. Sorry I only managed a few pictures. No he is not kneeling next to his Disco. The wet A$$ is his passenger.

    Thumbs up Unforgiving

Well a day was had by those who tempted Killarney in rather wet conditions, some sections treacherous as Sakkie pointed out. Even the mild sandpit kept us all busy as the previous weeks storm had made more inroads into the topography of the land than we could handle

Never the less a challenge was on and the day was enjoyed by all on the routes. Once the bush is opened up again this track certainly brings out a huge challenge. Worth a visit .........

As to the swimming, a misjudgement and one vehicle brought the really of the storm damage to the fore. The normally quiet and drive through crossing was no more, now a serious hole and it swallowed all that dared cross it.

The river route saw significantly higher levels of water making the ride one of serious concentration to avoid another pitfall...

Thanks to all and to Sakkie for a quick visit....look forward to the next outing............

    Some pics .............
