Default A Cure for those noisy hydraulic Lifters

    Hi All,

I have found a once off cure for those irritating hydraulic valve lifters that seem to be bothering numerous members, with high milage colts.

The product is Liqui-Moly Hydraulic Lifter Additive, this stuff is truly amazing. Made in Germany, sounds as if they have been around for yonks, fairly new to South Africa it seems.

They are making their name in the rally scene.

My bakkie went in for it's 213000km service, my mechanic mentioned the stuff, I was kinda skeptical about adding additives, but he reassured me that the stuff works, he even went as far as committing himself to repairing any damage caused by it.

Did the service, a good engine flush with the Liqui-Moly engine flush, added the 5L Shell let the engine warm up, and he added. To me the engine did'nt sound different, still had the lifters in the background.

Before I could get all peeved off with him he advised me to take a lekker long ride, 150 clicks or so.

That was 2weeks back, not as much as a click from the lifters morning or night. It really impressed the hell out of me, and at R65.00, could'nt ask for more.

    Liqui-Moly has a website: http://www.liqui-moly.co.za

Helps clean carbon and sludge build ups on the internal moving part, especially those lifters.

Cheers guys, hope it works for you.

Please try and take a picture of what your valvetrain looks like now. The take a picture just before your next oil change.

Those additives tend to make sludge. If it doesn't you would have helped many many people.

The other cure for the lifter ticking is found in my signature.

    Will try this stuff!

With mine I did a engine flush and added Delo 400 and then I thought my vehicle wants to fly due to the noise generated from the engine! Added additional additives and it seems to cool down but alas I am tired of that clattering noise!

At the point to sell my vehicle and to buy something else and just only about that IRRITATING noise!

I`m also very skeptical regarding any additives, please keep us in the loop & report back after doing a few 1000km`s if the lifters stay quiet.

The only real cure is the to get replacement lash adjusters with oversize oil passages. These are available in the US, but not seen them available here.

I quite like the sound of the ticking and as there is nothing inherently wrong when it does that, I can't be bothered with any of the alleged "cures"

I am not a Mitsu boffin, but does that adjuster not sit in a "pocket/socket" in the head. If it does, why not just shim it a bit tighter.?

My engine had them in ( and still does ). I had a look when the machinist had the heads apart

New style lifters on the left ( old style on the right )

This is Mitsu's recommended way of cleaning them out to get rid of the tick.

It doesn't always work but the big hole lifters and delo 400 is definitely a winning combination. If you are ever in East London give me a call and you can come listen to my V6

    Hi Pikanini,

I will try to take photo's to have a look at the before and after, should be interesting.

I hope this product will bring relief to many mitsu drivers with this problem.

I've done 1500km from the service, and lifters are very quiet.

    Will keep you informed.

    Cheers

    Navigator,

Kilo's I've done since service is 1500km's and lifters are running smooth, not a squeak out of them so far.

But I will keep you up to date.

    Cheers

    SimonB,

The ticking was never an issue to me, it sounded nice, let the public know you have a perfect machine under the hood.

But it got to the point where I had to literally push the bakkie out the drive-way, otherwise I would wake up the kids.

Now I can start her up with no problem, she is silent, very silent in the mornings.

I have found that I must warm the engine up for a few min and the turn the engine off for a second or too at a robot etc. when i start up again the noise is gone. hope it helps
