2009 Triton 2.5 4x4 import suspension steering vibration problems?

I mean seriously...

I have driven Isuzus with 300 000 km on dirt which are waaaay better, my Dad's Prado on 400 000km is waay better (original shocks, I swear).

I'm going to say it...MY FIAT PANDA 100HP WITH 45 PROFILE TYRES WAS WAAAAAAY BETTER.

Make sure they replaced steering coloumn.My friends c/c had to go and they said that they use some sort of glue or the like to fix the problem,well 2000km later and its not working.Now they have to replace.Apparently this glue or resin is what all the stealers have been using in hope that it works,and they say its not a great success.Take it to another dealer if you can for second look if your guys are pulling hard arse.

Guys, I think it was Sinwulf that explained the problem with the steering? Search it and you will understand what is wrong. Insist they replace it, or look at that post and make the mod.

Again, guys. It is NOT my steering column.

The moment there is a problem ith a Triton everyone just says it's the steering column and in this case its not.

Thanks anyway, will have to go to Mitsu and replace s#!t until it improves.

Steering column replaced recently, newish Gas Magnum Shocks, alignment done, wheel balancing done, just had the tie rod ends reconditioned and everything under the car checked.

STILL got serious feedback through steering, slight knock when turning from straight to right after a stop, vibration, poor bump absorption etc etc...

AAAAARGH going mad.

By the way mine is a 4x2 clubcab 2009 but it has a Mercedes plate with the VIN on it so does that mean it's local?

My measurements for ride height are bang on average or even a bit above what others have recorded so my springs seem fine.

Andrew, not sure of the bump when turning right, but vibration in the steering does point to the column. I wonder if those two are lied, and perhaps you've damaged a CV or side shaft?

Bump absorption could be tyre pressures. What tyres and pressures are you running? Also, I found that my new shock needed a few thousand Kim's before they seemed to 'wear in'. My van is now super plush on gravel roads!

I'm no mechanic, but most feedback comes through the steering column? On the Can I have a knock through the steering wheel, but this is apparently the a arms with worn bushes, and because it is attached to the chassis as well is the steering column, I pick the knocks up.

So it might well be something else that reroutes it through the chassis into the steering column, but with the known problem on the Triton, thats an easy starting point. And if the column has been changed, it is not to say it will last again, as the problem on the column is the attachment points that are plastic or of a type of material that must give away ander impact if I remember correctly.

Maybe your vehicle was previously involved in an accident or something... Sell it, and get another one!

Has there been any updates on this problem because I have exactly the same issue! My steering is horribly sensitive and I get bad feedback from every bump in the road. It really doesnt seem to be the column. Along with that the handling is terrible, even with the new Monroe shocks.
I am reaching the end of my patience as nobody can give me an idea of what the problem might be.

Have you changed the springs? I fitted IM almost 200thousand km ago and it's chalk and cheese. Thinking about moving the winch to behind the rear numberplate to make it even better.

Thanks for the replies.

I have not had the column replaced (out of warranty) but I dont suspect it is that as it is not physically loose and doesnt appear to rattle.

I went around to LA Sport to get a second opinion and they recon that my front coil springs are moeg and need replacing.
They want R12k to change all 4 shocks, the front coils and extended shackles to TJM. The other option is to just do the coil springs for now, but they are worried it will ruin the Monroe shocks as the coil springs are longer than stock.

When I drove home today on the gravel road I put my head out the window so that I could see the front wheels whilst driving slowly. With every bump or corrugation my wheels will move from side to side and the steering wheel wobbles, something isnt right with my steering...
