That looks like so much fun! Awesome looking Wrangler that is, I would love to own a TJ one day, I love my JK, but a TJ has that other aspect to it that just feels so honest.

Playing around on the "Old Postal Route". Alone with my son, 84km took us 6 hours . We did not see another human for 8 hours in total, how brilliant is that. Click image for larger version.

Default My 2005 Cherokee KJ 2.8 CRD Sport with Grand Cherokee alloys...

Bought my KJ when I needed another car ASAP to get me work and back because my Citroen C4 Grand Picasso's 1.6HDi engine blew up on the way to work on a Friday.
I have a boat and had real problems recovering it up mudy slipways with the Citroen so this time I decided buying a 4WD would be a good idea. I spotted my KJ at my local used car dealer with just 51,000 miles on the clock, and a six speed gearbox...it looked immaculate. At £2995, I was surprised to find it was the cheapest car in their yard, and I could not understand why? I paid the dealer a £200 deposit to secure it there and then I but told him I would not have the rest of the money till Monday morning when I could get to the bank and I left for home.
In the meanwhile, after reading the comments on Jeep forums about the high fuel consumption I would expect if I bought it, I panicked and started looking for alternatives...Anything but that Jeep, I thought...I just wont be able to afford to run it.
Well, I could not find anything else with such low milage in time, or for the same sort of money, so I ended up buying the KJ. After picking the KJ up I headed to my local Tescos to get Diesel...And I had a shock at how much it cost to fill it up...My first tankfull cost me £95!!! It seems my predictions were coming true.
I wasn't happy with the standard 16" Steel wheels it came fitted with either, especially as it had different size tyres on the back as it did on the front! (29" BFG 235/70R16 A/T's on the front and 30.1" 255/70R16 A/T's on the back, and all of them were starting to perish. So I bought five 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited Edition Ultrastar Alloys on ebay for £150 and four Alphamotors DK365 road-going SUV tyres which had both good wet grip, yet also low rolling resistance (Euro B rating for both), for £118, getting one more for the spare later for another £49.95. I was told the Ultrastars would not fit a KJ because they have a different offset (25.4mm or 1" different)...But they do fit...Perfectly in fact.
I had to change the gas struts holding up the bonnet, as it turned out some idiot had fitted the smaller struts from the rear tailgate, which didn't have the power to hold the heavy bonnet up.
And lastly, I wasn't happy with battery that was fitted...It was a weedy 113 battery, with 50Ah capacity and 500CCA...Alright in the summer but in the winter, when battery capacity drops due to the cold, I reckoned I would have real trouble getting the VM 2.8 to turn over, let alone start.
So after much research I found a suitable battery...The Advanced 096R XD, with 77Ah capacity and a much beefier 780CCA, with a 5 year warranty too...Only £78 on ebay. It was a bit longer than the plastic battery tray in the KJ though so I simply modified the tray by snapping off the raised lip closest to the engine, and it dropped straight in. Made a new low profile clamp out of some Aluminium angle and it was ready to go.
Anyway, I am now very happy that I bought it, firstly because it has no DPF filter on it to get in the way, and secondly because it can easily achieve 45mpg (38 US mpg)!
