I looked and looked again and thought... and then on closer inspection I realised it was only a tow strap

Yeah there is one on the rear as well, in case we need to tow the Hilux out of the mud as well.

They stay permantly on the vehilce, we do not remove them, but there is also two kinetic straps in a bag in the vehicle, just in case we need to use them for the Hilux and our mates Landrover, but I heard that he is busy fitting 33" x 1250 x 15" BFG uds to his Defender now as well as some kit to the chassis, thus maybe he will not need the kinetic's.

I thought visible tow straps are the same as the Sandton posers who have LRs with

    • brand new roof rack
    • Easy-Awn awning
    • RTT
    • two ammo cases
    • (empty) Cadac gas bottle
    • high lift jack
    • spade (stainless, nogal)
    • axe
... and no sign that any of the above have ever been used!

    Just joking, Simon.

Won't the prolonged exposure to UV damage those straps?

If I look at what the sun did to the nice (poser) Mainstay bull bar protectors in just 6 months, I would not have a strap exposed to sun and mud.

I was referring to the colour. I thought you painted the Jeeps bullbar pink as well

Red face Jeep has made Headlines

Yeah so here I have posted a photo of The TJ Wrangler pulling the Hilux out of the mud, this photo was taken on the plains of Hangklip Mountain, we were out a few weeks back exploring, of course Toyota was up front, the other guys felt that they would just follow behind, thus I came across this very narrow stream, and slowly edged my front of my Hilux into it, (no ways am I going to get out and see how deep the water or mud is, that is for Sissies) just drive straight into it, then yes I got stuck.

Thus because the tow strap was already on the front of the Jeep, we used it to pull me slowly back out, there was Marion in his Landrover Defender 110, but no ways would I let him pull me out, that would surely be the last resort if the Jeep could not, something that you guys would rip me off about for a long long time.

Anyway yes I do sit in front of my computor late at night, got nothing else to do, I do not watch TV much, have not got dstv, at this time of the night the wife is fast asleep in her bed, normally take the two Jack Russels out to play and do their thing before I retire, sit here and eat ice-cream and chocolate sauce and milk in a soup mug, hooked on this stuff, been doing it for years.

Anyway not sure how the Toyota guys will take this photo of a JEEP pulling me out.
And then as some of you already know, there are no tracks or trails or roads to follow in this whole vast area, as far as your eyes can see this is the area that we drive, basiccaly follow the cattle tracks and use "common sense".

    Here's my MY2000 three-month-old baby:

Bone stock, and happily so! Oh, I think the tyres are a little wider than stock. AFAIK, they come with 205s and these are 225s. Could they be the second set of Wrangler G-SAs, since it's got about 50 000 kms on the clock? I see the guys in the US call them Get Stuck Anywheres...

    Stadleroux,

    Welcome! Nice looking Jeep.

The stock size tyre on the Wrangler is indeed the 225's. I have two virtually new ones if you need some. They were on a set of Wrangler rims I bought for my Cherokee.

Thanks, gorman, so I guess then it really is totally stock. No problem there for me - it's my regular ride too, so I don't want to do anything to it that would make it less comfortable or safe on the freeway! BTW, are you the gorman from that old dubbed-into-Afrikaans puppet show TV series, Redding Internasionaal?!

Nice looking Jeep Stadleroux, I've also got a 225 tyre for you here, brand new Goodyear, I think it is also a GS-A. Me, you and Gorman can discuss it over a beer if you need new/extra tyres...

Finally got some decent pics of my Jeep... these were taken at the play-ground above tygervalley waterfront. The last at Boerbaba's dune play ground.

Very nice, I was going to say the area where the first two pics were taken looks very familiar....you can see my workplace in the background!

Let me know when you go play there again - I'll join you!

You know off course that if you disconnect your swaybar your rear wheel will still be on the ground in those pics.

    Beautiful Jeep, I must say!!

Here's some pics taken a while back at the same playground!

    Default Very nice

    Hi Biggles and Gorman.

Both those XJ's are very nice looking vehicles, and the XJ's are really growing on me. If I was considering another serious northward bound trans Africa trip, and had to do it in a Jeep again, I think I would settle on a XJ. 8)

    Talking Diesel GC

Got the camera back so here is my Jeep.
Another Diesel Grand Cherokee. It's a limited 3.1 TD and it's finally sort-ed.

Still Stock as soon as the finances level out, toys will start coming . Got a air jack though on Saterday.

Mud is from level 1 FWDC driver training. Was near Harties at the African Outdoor Group (Nissan Training ) Facility. On the mountian it looks quite nice .

Bit of a dumb question but, are GC's and other Jeeps for that matter suppose to climb over and through things without much PT, or am I not trying 8) hard enough 8) ! Just asking since having seen and heard some other makes, or is the driver classification
Hou my brand-hick en coke en watssh hierie move!

    Hi Winston

What size tyres do you have on your GC? I have an unused 225/75/16 from my Jeep as I am now running 245/70/16 tyres. Or do the limited models have 17" wheels?
