Give some of the shops that offer to teach a call and speak directly. web sites are tourist orientated. State that you are serious and not just some tourist that wants a go.

I got stuck with 2 germans that messed around and quite frankly slowed my progress down.

Awesome sport, the chaps are very active in PE. (Pity it to so expensive to buy the kit.)

Lots of second hand stuff floating about, lots of people buy all the kit and realise its not for them... I am looking for an old kite and harness so I can do some land kite surfing up here... no shortage of space, wind here!!!

Workshop is going to weld me a three wheel trike thing.

4x4 might only be a new passion to me and I will no doubt have many years of mods, mud and long dirt roads ahead but kiting is something I know about already having been kiting for 5 years solidly. Here is the best site for info and second hand gear www.ikiteboarding.com - although its a .com, it is local. In terms of learning, depends where you are based and I can point you in the right direction in terms of what you can expect price wise ect. This is a great sport, it will scare the sh*t out of your core muscles and keep you ultra fit if you do it often enough. The new kites are really safe and easy to use but still give you a kick in the nuts just to let you know that you are not invincible and need to treat the sea with respect. Any other info you need, just shout.

I was one of the first 50 kitesurfers in Cape Town... and have seen this sport grow into what it has become. was also the owner of one of the forums. depending on your location, I would say your best bet for learning to kitesurf is with a guy called Demitri and runs a kite school in Langebaan, called Wind Chasers. He offers the whole package in one. A rescue boat, lessons in Sharkbay for beginner days, then on the water in front of pearly's, and he also offers really nice accommodation. Geez, its been so long, Im not sure if he still does it, but we often drive past the spot and its always busy. Its worth making the effort, as your learning curve will be much quicker by getting lessons at the right spot. from there, you can progress to trying out the sport in the ocean. Langebaan lagoon is your best place to learn. you can learn anywhere, but this is just what I would suggest that stands out for what I have seen in the industry.
