Default Crossing over Khwai near Mababe Village

I have now typed the trip report af a 14 day trip into bots twice and everytime I clicked on "submit" it disappreared!

    Some helpful info.

The bridge at Mababe will still take a year or two to build. I think!

Up-stream from Mababe there are two crossings. The crossing for light vehicles has an underwater "bridge" which was falling apart a month ago. Not too far from there is a truck-crossing. here the water is just knee-deep. The trucks have washed their tracks out very deeply, but just to the right of the truck crossing the bottom is very solid and the water knee-deep.

To cross one enters the crossing in the cutting from the South. Keep as far a possible to the right (Right next to the bank) When you exit the cutting, turn about 30 degrees to the right and head for the bank +- 10 metres to the right of the cutting into the Northern bank.

Just mind the angle of the climb up the Northern bank.

We have not tried the crossing from North to South.

The truck crossing is not too deep for light vehicule but the slopes are very slippy. We were not adviced to cross there. Look at the picture:

However, the is a kind of bridge close to Mogothlo Lodge. We crossed with the Defender and hopefully the bridge did not break:

This is the future bridge. It seems to be finished but the concrete pillars are not build yet...

We went to a crossing similar to the pole bridge shown, but it was in pieces. in the picture the truck is crossing from north to south. If you enter the river to the left on the mopani in the left of the shot and then head across to enter the opposite cutting tightly against the left side the water is quite shallow.

I will write the trip report again.
