Default 2002 double cab 3.2D any good?

Is the 2002 Nissan 3.2D double cab 4x2 any good? I know the 2.7D has a bad rep. More importantly, what do I need to look out for on these vehicles? And how much should I pay for one in good condition? It is the top of range model. (SEL?)

They do not like to overheat at all. The walls between the cylinders are very thin and unforgiving. They are realy slow old workhorses and dont do highways very well. Otherwise good solid workhorses.

Moving from a 280DT Kezoos to a 3.2 Datsun is going to frustrate the living daylights out of you. It's a good solid reliable (I think) vehicle, but it must be the slowest diesel out there. I think a 2.5 Isuzu is faster.

Rather look at an early ZD30 model (3.0 16VTD). It was a HUGE improvement.

BTW, Nissan discontinued the 3.2D for the local market in 2001. It was only built for export into Africa and only in 4x4, so I smell a rat here...

    Thanks for the input guys,

It's not for me. Wouldn't swap the sooz for just about anything in its price range.
My friend has been offered one at a ridiculously low price, and in great condition, but we don't know anything about this model at all. He needs reliability, good fuel consumption, a back seat and a load bin (not for heavy stuff). It seems like it fits the bill. was worried about reliability as I've heard the previous 2.7td was not reliable.

When you say its slow, what do you mean? Will it sit at 120 on the freeway easily? It probably takes a week to get to 120 though?

I had one and used to cruise around at 110km/h or so. On straights it would do 130-140 but its not made for that. Its a workhorse that doesnt pretend to be a turbo charged dicing bakkie.

The 2.7TD was a local stuff-up made by Nissan SA's special vehicles. It was a standard 2.7 that had a turbo fitted locally back in the days when turbo's were still considered a black art. The VERY last D21 models were ok-ish, but it's better to steer clear of these in general. The non-turbo 2.7 is a very reliable workhorse.

Driving on the Western Bypass (N1 past Roodepoort) going up the hill from Gordon to William Nicol, I couldn't get it above 100km/h with an empty vehicle with just me in it and half a tank of fuel. Granted, it was a 4x4, but still. A good ZD30 can hold 130km/h on the same hill easily.

    Like I said, s....l.....o.....w........................
