Default Hi from bike to 4x4

Hi, new here, currently ride a BMW 1200GS motorbike that I use for all my offroad overland trips and touring SA, love it! But, the missus is starting to get a little tired of the bike, and I would also like to start packing more things (mostly all my camera equipment). Will probably still keep the bike, but started to look for a 4x4, mostly for diving trips up to Moz, and trips to Namibia, and knowing myself will probably want to do the odd...but nothing too hectic 4x4 course. Now to keep the bike and also get a 4x4, it's going to have to be cheap, somthing sub R100k, if not sub R80 if possible and use the R20k to fix it up or mod etc. Have been looking at Landy Defenders and Discovery's, but seems it might be expensive to maintain, might be wrong. Also been thinking of older shaped DC Hilux or Isuzu. Realisticly I would want something that I can work on myself.

    Deamon WELCOME

Just gone through the same. Been on bikes for many years, still do tar trips. Got a small 4x4 last year.

Go to a 4x4 dealer and buy Andrew St Pierre White's "Overlanding" DVD. For less than R200 it will give you many ideas AND help to "give direction" to you own ideas. This small investment might keep you from doing things twice later on ....

DO do the 4x4 cources. As with a bike, the BASICS can save you major losses later on ......

I went through the same thing in March this year, but I managed to swop my Intruder for a XJ Jeep - I was lucky I guess
