A friend who travels a lot all over the world once said to me, If you get off the plane in the UK or USA or Italy or Australia or wherever, and you have a problem or they dont like your face, they put you straight back on the plane home.
If you have a problem at a border post of an african country or they dont like your face or luggage or whatever, you hand over your passport together with a $10 note and there you go, no further problem and you can enjoy your trip.
Making life miserable for yourself should not be part of your vacation plans.

This guy was send back by customs becuase his passport had a page missing. Checking the pages he noticed nothing wrong. Another traveller suggested that he put a $50 note in the passport. He had only $20. Customs told him "it is a small page man but OK. You may proceed.!!"

Came back from Angola 2 weeks ago. From Ruacana to the Kongo river and back, out at Oskikango. Also took the detour to Kaladula falls and Pedras Negras. Not a problem at all, friendly police and no issues at the border. We travelled solo and the only Portuguese we know came out of a little phrase book. Don't always believe everything you hear.
