Road conditions Pretoria to Stockpoort

Need advice please

Next week we are travelling from Pretoria to Stockpoort. Have never done this route before.

Which is the better route for towing a caravan:
Pretoria > Modimolle > R33 to Vaalwater and Lephalale, or
Pretoria > N1 to just before Mokopane and then R518 to Marken and Lephale

Pretoria > Modimolle > R33 to Vaalwater and Lephalale - this is the nicer route. There are some potholes to look out for between Vaalwater and Elisras, and especially between Ellisras and the border. Take it easy and wyou will spot a lot of game on the way.
Matamba is a noce stopover closer to the border if youd like to break up the trip - especially if you cannot make the border ealry enough.
