Kasane - vic falls - Hwange - Nata

Dear members,

I hope you can assist me with advice and ideas for part of our 4x4 trip through Botswana and Zimbabwe.

We will be spending over a week in Moremi and Chobe, and on May 22, we plan to leave Chobe and drive to Kasane, where we will likely stay at either Senyati or Tilodi. From Kasane, our itinerary includes one night at Victoria Falls, two nights in Hwange National Park, one night in Nata, one night at Lekhubu Island, and then on to Moremi Gorge, among other destinations.

I have read on the forum about potential difficulties at the border crossing from Kasane to Victoria Falls. Additionally, I am uncertain about where to stay in Hwange National Park; while one night at Robins Camp seems practical, I am still deciding on the second night. It might also make sense to skip Lekhubu Island and spend an extra day in Hwange instead.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the following:
1. What is the best route/itinerary?
2. Should we spend more time in Hwange or visit Lekhubu Island?
3. What accommodations do you recommend in Hwange?

I have a trip booked in Sept in the opposite direction to you - coming from Nata to Hwange via Padamatenga border post and then on to Vic Falls and Kasane.

1. Hwange - I would consider spending another night here instead of one-night stops at Nata/Lekhubu - we are staying at Deetema, Shumba, Masume dam and Kennedy - all of which have been recommended by friends. Although the first 3 sites are picnic sites/hides during the day, they are exclusively yours at night. Kennedy would be a bit far to the West for 1 night.
2. Hwange - Vic Falls - I am also looking for advice on the best route from Kennedy camp to Vic Falls as I understand the main A8 is not in a good condition?
3. Border crossing - I have noted your comments about 'difficulties' and would also appreciate any advice from members.
4. Kasane - am looking for campsite recommendations as Chobe Safari Lodge already fully booked. Want to stay in/near town in order to do boat trip.
