Pre heated the Cobb, again maybe 6-7 briquettes, short rib put on the wire rack and they came out as good as I could get them on a braai, in fact I think they retained the juices a bit better.

The T bones she tried on the grid, mine does not have the griddle pan thing just the grid it came with. Not a fail, but not as good as on the braai and definitely not as good as my Alva hot plate. I am going to try a full tri tip and chicken over the next couple of days and see how they turn out. We are only two people and as much as I love cooking over coals it can some times be a real waste to light a braai for a couple of steaks
Your Alva Hot Plate, is that the mini braai CCR111 in the plastic carry case?
Best thing we've bought in a long time. For the two of us old timers, it's used almost weekly, no mess no bother.
I'm way past the "wood is the only way to braai" stage and I do enjoy turning a tjop.

Mine is the three burner hot wheel, must be 15 years old. I use the griddle side only. It is so well seasoned that when it smokes we know it is ready. Gets a coat of oil after every use.

Just this weekend we did a pork belly in the rain whilst camping, the convenience and efficiency factors are truly great of the compact solution!
My Swambo takes a dishwasher tablet and mixes it into a spray bottle, anything that gets greasy she sprays. Often she just sprays the Cobb and then wipes out with paper towel or those kitchen wipes

Recently started just putting it in the dishwasher and works quite well. Spray it before hand with one of those braai cleaning products and just wash

My next Cobb will be my 4th.

1st one I charged w too much charcoal
    and it disintegrated.
    2nd one was stolen out
    from under my canvas canopy
3rd one is now near end of life

So Im on lookout for another...

    Theyre great.

I dont use 'stones', normally charcoal or briquettes or hardwood coals from fire
    esp Buffalo Thorn etc
They great for roasting/baking type stuff,
    eg Chicken, Potatoes, Bread, Mealies,etc
Low heat/'Braai' sausages, bacon, rissoles, toast, Omlettes etc etc
but not really Steaks or Lamb cuts etc as
you need more heat etc ... thats how I destroyed my first cobb because its more
an oven than a Chisa Hearth !

Cobbs also great for cooking in rainy weather
on back flap of Landy or under awning
and cooking where braaing is not allowed.

    Never leave it behind.

    Ive started using this product:
Grill blast, I normally buy from OK or Checkers.

    https://www.takealot.com/grill-blast...s&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Work wonders but its aggressive.
