Default Terios ABS and Speed Sensors

Since we got our Terios back after standing for a number of months (it is a sad story and you can read about it here https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...ion?highlight=), the ABS light has been on.

We had the vehicle checked with a diagnostic computer and it reported a fault with the front right and rear left ABS/speed sensors. The sensors were cleaned (no moving parts) and popped back into place and the error was cleared via the computer. After a quick test drive but the ABS light came back on.

    Questions:
    1. Does the Terios use the same ABS/speed sensors as the Toyota Avanza?
    2. Would there be any reason to question the "ABS module" itself (apparently there is a pump that could be seized)?

Another strange thing is that sometimes the speedometer drops to zero while we are driving - often after hitting some bumps in the road. It comes back after a while, or if we slow down to around 50kmh. We joke and say our Terios has the fastest 100-0kmh time and the fastest 0 -100 kmh time (< 1s!).

To add to this, our Terios often "dies" on us after driving about 10km after a cold start. Pressing the accelerator does nothing - as if the car is starved of fuel. When we slow right down (30kmh), the power comes back and the Terios starts responding to accelerator input again.

We love our little Terios and really want to be able to trust her again - I'm hoping somebody has some insights for us

Standing for a period of time....maybe some 'corrosion' on the contacts

Had issue with my previous Subaru.

I suggest unplug the ABS connector, spray with Electronic cleaner spray, let it dry and reconnect. As many of them from ABS to speed sensors.

    This worked for me

Thanks for the suggestion! I cleaned and reseated the offending ABS/speed sensors (FR, RL) on the wheels - no change. I then also followed the wires to where they clip into the main wiring harness and cleaned and reattached those - no change.

The sensors seem to be very simple - just a magnet that "reads" the number of teeth that pass by. Not sure how or why this part would fail - and only the FR and RL units. I've managed to find replacements, but I'm not convinced that replacing the parts will solve the problem.

The speedo tends to drop when we hit some bumps which makes me suspect wiring/connection - but where?!

Find the relay box. Pull the relays one x one and spray with electrical cleaner. Also pull of the connector to the relay box and give that a good spray.

You mentioned the wheel bearings were replaced. I’m not sure if your car has teeth on the cv or a magnetic ring on the bearing to give the abs sensor its signal. One assumes the fault is as a result of the bearing replacement. I would be looking there. A diagnostic will be able to tell you if it’s a wiring fault or a signal fault
