Default Planning for a Moz tour

Hi all, we are planning ( on short notice ) to tour through Moz next year. My wife & I are reasonably experienced overlanders ( been through Namibia, Angola, Botswana) but this is new territory for us.

    • The rough plan is to enter from Kosi Bay and then make our way north ( mostly on the coast) to exit into Malawi at a suitable border crossing.
    • The panned departure date ex Kois Bay is end April 2025.
    • We are traveling with a fully equipped Hilux D4D 4x4 and RTT camping all the way
    • we are not towing anything.
    • The Hilux has an extra fuel tank giving us decent range making us less dependent on fuel being readily available.
    • We will be traveling solo, therefore we do not plan to venture to far off the beaten track.
    • We are geared for bush camping but would like to keep that to the minimum.
    • The plan is to meander through the country taking time to soak in the culture and get to know the area.
    • To do that we allow approx 3-4 weeks in Moz

I would appreciate guidance as to :

    • What sites / areas MUST we see ?
    • Is it worthwhile spending a day or 2 in Maputo ?
    • What route is advisable avoiding as much as possible of the unhappiness / corrupt cops one often hear about ?
    • Where do you recommend we enter Malawi ?
    • It will be out of season --- is it necessary to book campsites ? ( I would prefer to stay flexible).
    • Which campsites are highly recommended ?
    • Roughly how much on average can one expect to pay for a reasonable campsite.
    • Is good quality diesel readily available ?
    • Is it worthwhile bothering with Drive Moz - or is it just another money making scheme ??
    • What red tape should we take into account ?
    • Any Moz specific street smarts we should know of ??
    • Anything else ??

I would appreciate any input to put this together at fairly short notice !!

    Many thanks .

Moet net nie in of naby engine groot dorp kamp of bly nie.
    Diesel is goed.
Paindane area , Cumbini lodge my beste kamp plek daar bo. Paindane resort.
By Casa Rei ook kamp plek.
