My kids are through the border this morning.

Around a 17km que on the SA side.

Some damage to buildings at the Moz side at Ressano Garcia. A army and police presence on the Moz side but all clear. Computers still down on the Moz side so they entered without TIP.

They have 33 days to sort their chit, then we are there on our way in.

My insurer has now cancelled cover into Mozam as well, any update or predictions on the situation there in the near future?

    I am really baffled.

They have a form of strike where everyone in traffic stops around 12 in the afternoon, honk for 10 or 15 minutes and then carry on as normal.

At night around 9pm lean out your window and bang pots and pans to show solidarity.

No war as some are saying and no danger to property.

This from my kids who stay in Moz and have been in and out of Maputo for the last 2 weeks.

The border is not destroyed as some want you to believe, computers were down and some broken windows but not gutted by fire as was widely spread on social media.

So why cancel cover for those who want to travel there?

Its bureaucratic, I believe SA DIRCO did issue a travel warning and as such certain insurance will withdraw coverage.

I see DriveMoz facebook page is warning of protests starting again in and around Maputo for 3 days. They are planning to block roads.

Good afternoon, we have been held up since 9am between Inhassoro and Vilanculos, the village is called Maimelane. There is a serious protest, all the vehicles have been blocked with stones and logs of wood. They say they will let us continue our march at 3.30pm. The situation in the country is very complicated. We were on our way to Komatipoort, 5 people and two vehicles. We will probably go to Pafuri to cross there, to see if we have an easier time.

There will be at least 3 days of strike with these kinds of roadblocks and blockades. We would really appreciate any information you can give us about the state of the borders.

    Hi All,

Just recieved from my insurance broker ( SANTAM )

Mozambique is currently experiencing significant political unrest following recent elections, with opposition parties and citizens rejecting the results,
leading to violent protests and disturbances.
It is crucial that you as client, understand the details of the coverage Santam offers, on your policy in these uncertain times.
Note that under general exclusions war, riot and terrorism ARE EXCLUDED

Additionally, under the Riot and Strike extension, the same exclusion applies.
This is important to note, as many may incorrectly assume they are covered for damages arising from political unrest.
Please be aware of this exclusion and do not misled into thinking
you have coverage for property damage resulting from protests or civil unrest against any State of Government.

We cover riot and strike under the extension as stipulated above when it is not politically motivated.

    1. Personal Lines:
o Under the General section of the policy, we exclude damage to property caused by protests against the State or Government.

Under the Riot & Strike extension, the following exclusions will apply:

To avoid potential issues with claims it is important that you understands the scope of cover.

Just so you are all aware - SA Insurers do NOT cover Riot & Strike in Mozambique at all, never have. If your vehicle is financed your bank may refuse you permission to go to Mozambique due to the risks.

jaconel you could try visit us in Santa Maria, it's not as crazy busy as Ponta, and a paradise.
about 80km past the Ponta turnoff from the new tar road, you will find Entrada de Futi, drive 67 km of nice thick beach sand road to SM and enjoy.

We have had no trouble here form these protests.
We own the Dive centre here and could do with some divers

When travelling there we always need to by the 3rd party insurance either online or from a vendor at the border.

Would anyone know it this insurance covers for riots and damages associated with it ?

    worth exploring.

No it is 3rd Party only cover ie damage or injury to Third Parties, No Own Damage from any cause.

Riot cover is available in Mozambique but you would have to have your vehicle repaired in Mozambique and this will exceed your temporary import permit so not advisable.

There really is no way of knowing what the protestors will do during December, they have promised increased violence. I would not risk it with my family

This idiot is like a spoilt child. He will carry on until Moz is caat back into a civil war and all their prosperity of the last 30 years go down the drain again.

We are at the point where we are probably cancelling our trip and throwing all the moneys we already spent into the toilet and flushing just because some childish clown is upset because he didn't get his way.
