Camping trailer with 270 awning

Hi,

I am in the process of looking for a camping trailer. What I want is a tent with the room that also froms part of the sleeping area, but I also want an awning. But I dont want the awning that you throw over your tent and have to put in multiple poles.

My idea is a 270 awning that can just fold out as easy as the tent. The limit is the height tho of the awning compared to the tent.

Anyone has a camping trailer, with the tent part, and also a 270 fold out awning, and maybe some photos. I dont seem to find any that is for sale like the way I want. So I am wondering if that sort is out there, or if there is a DIY then to add a 270 awning at a specific height.

Hi, I haven't got any clue regarding the trailer, but I have an 270 Awning from Alu Cap. Nice to swing out. The advantage is the possibility to add a large room unto it. The add on tent is coming in 4 x side panels, each has windows and the 3x doors. Everything is holding together with Velcro. The doors and windows are with zip. The tent is stored inside a bag. 4x4 Mega World is normally the agent for Alu Cap. The Head Office is in Cape Town. I have mine now about 3.5 years and no problem. 1 x person is able to set this up. The same old story, the more often you are doing it, the better and faster it will me. (Gutter not as good, but helps very little.)

My metalian maxi has exactly what you are looking for. A tent with a ‘dressing room’ for want of a better term, plus a separate 270 degree awning.

Yes that is exactly it.

But when you drive, is the awning always a bit extended to the air or does it go down, or how does it work?

It folds down flat with a clever spring loaded mechanism to help it up.

I’ll take some pictures today Derek, however when you drive the awning carrier is ‘down’. When you stop, it is unclipped by releasing two lockable latches and it goes up about a foot on a gas strut. The awning cover can be unzipped and the 270 degree awning swings out. The legs are attached and held up by velcro with additional poles to fit between the legs horizontally. All very sturdy and I have hardly ever used the fitted guy ropes, even in wind. Metallian supply ‘walls’ to make the 270 degrees completely enclosed too.

All Conqueror trailer now comes standard with 270 awnings.

Hi there, I have a, (ex) camping trailer for sale. I removed the roof-top Hannibal tent and sold it separately. Another roof-top tent can easily be fitted. It has brand new tires and is built fully of stainless steel (will last forever). Lots of space in boxes fitted on the sides. If you are interested I can send you some photos. I looked around at awnings for a long time
before before committing.
Eventually opted to rather eventualy have 2-3 awnings rather than the 270 etc.

Problem is, if there there are gusts of wind, I believe a 270 awning can be quite vulnerable (especially if it doesnt have several supports and anchoring guy ropes)
Another requisite , as I see it, is a 270 also requires a more substantial anchoring on
ones roof-rack and more substantial folding arms (ie also weight & head-room aspects).
I eventually opted for EeziAwns 'self-supporting' Swift Awning which is about
2.3m along the car and 2m out ... with
only 2 (folding-in arms). Its not truly self supporting but has 2 built-in, integrated
support struts; which I commonly dont use
for short stops.
I will, in due course also put a short rear-fold-out awning at the back and a fold out cube over the cars far side gull-wing.

My 2c.

( P.S. Thanks for the insight to the fold-up awning struts for a trailer ... I shall make some up for my Mini-Metalian ! )
