It been a bit of a mission sorting out steelies, the 105 rims are quite scarce, pricey and imho not the nicest looking. So in looking for aftermarket alternatives I first had to sort out what load capacity I was targeting, it's virtually impossible to find an official Toyota load rating (please share if you do indeed find it). I misunderstood Grips assertion of 1600kg he clarified this in a DM as the maximum point load at the wheel, which means that axle can carry 3200kg. This checked out during a conversation I had with the engineers from a company that fits out LC79s for the security industry owned by a business partner. Interestingly they kit their vehicles with 18" steel run flats rated at 1500kg manufactured here in SA, obviously 18" won't work for our purposes and run flats are rather superfluous. Most importantly was the information that in our application the engineers felt that 1400kg steel rims would be more than strong enough as you would prefer the rim to fail before the axle does which is why they stay below 1600kg.
So with 1400kg as the target I thought it would be relatively easy to find suitable rims with Dynamic rims as suggested on here my first port of call, the website had a variety of options with the Mine Spec being the strongest at 1800kg. Dynamic Round Mine Specs rims are not stocked by local agents that Dynamic Australia referred me to and in any case they would be too strong for the axle, so I requested prices for 1400kg options. They gave me a price for a set of five rims with a part number BI1680P5150B which the Dynamic website shows to be only 1200kg. I asked the rep to rather price the BI1680P5150HDB, "we don't stock those, but the ones I quoted are rated 1400kg they have a stamp on them" he sends me a photograph. I seek clarity from Dynamic Australia with the answer that if the factory stamped them 1400kg then they are 1400kg!
It's a bit confusing but knowing Australia to be a bit of nanny state when it comes to safety I'm inclined to accept this answer and order these rims as there are very few other options. https://dynamicwheelco.com.au/wheels...tion-beadlock/
So with the importers of the Dynamic rims dragging their heels I found this alternative from Sunrise Wheels rated at 1500kg. Only problem is that they are narrower at 7J as opposed to 8J. I'm trying to get my head around whether this is an issue as it equates 12.5mm additional tire protrusion either side, a 265 tire already protrudes by 30 mm on an 8J rim. Would 42.5 mm be a problem?
Rob, maybe, maybe not? But I doubt if it will be an issue. I once had a 2.5 hilux 4x4, cant remember the rim width but I fitted 245 tyre on it (BFG). Think the EOM was 205 tyres. Drove it something like 140km with that tyres, no issue.

No. In fact, off road it may be a slight advantage as it protects the sidewall a little bit better.
However, your tire mounted will actually be a little bit narrower.
The 265 is not at the tread, it's somewhere in the middle of the sidewall, thus mounting them on a narrower trim will result in a slightly narrower fitted tire.
I run 285/75R16's on 7J rims without any issues.
