Default Zanbezi water level in lower Zambesi

As we see from pictures the Vic Falls have nearly dried out. Rehabilitation of the Karina Dam not complete yet. I have seen videos of people walking in the Zambesi and supposedly crossing the river by foot to Mana Pools.

Can anybody confirm? If situation is as such i will have to reconsider visiting Lower Zambezi in the forthcoming days.

I was there 2 weeks ago. I was between the Kafue and Lower Zambezi National Park. I could see it was lower but still a lot of water and amazing. I wouldn't walk across that river. There is still a lot of boating activity on the river. Veld is very dry though.

We were in Kasane area a month ago and the river was lower than in previous years, but still a LOT of water. Guides also commentred that the river did not break its banks onto the floodplain this season.

Lake Kariba is 10-12% full . Was there 3 weeks ago . Zambezi lower but still flowing strong . Elephants crossing to islands , but I did not see any humans trying this .

The Kafue flows into the Zambezi upstream from Mana Pools , and that still has a fair amount of water in it .

We spent a week in the LZNP area a few weeks ago and it is one of the most beautiful areas we’ve been to.
The area away from the river is very dry. The game is concentrated along the river and it is definitely worth heading there. It will be hot now but I wouldn’t cancel because or the river level.

    Nice photos
The photo that I can recognise shows Sibilobilo Islands and Bhumi Hills. Very low - can see a substantial stretch of what is usually lake bed, and the largest island appears to be connected to the mainland.

You are referring to the hydro power operating capacity which is currently below 7.5%% but overall the water level is at 476mL measured at dam wall.
So yes pretty low ito power generation capacity and it would require some heavy rains on a continuous basis to get back to 100% and overflowing capacity.
Its the lowest its been this decade.

    Hi Guys & Galls,
The water flow at Sioma is 250 Q meters per second as at today.
At Chavuma it is 50 Q meters per second.
The water level at Kabula is the same as last year.
If Angola and Congo do not get rain in the catchment areas soon, we will be in trouble.
The video showing people walking through the Zambezi is way below Kariba dam wall.
Due to little or no water being released from Kariba cause the low levels.
    ENJOY.
