    Default Mozambique National Parks.

I'm in the early stage of planning our forthcoming trip to Africa for the summer of 25. One of the options is picking our truck in Johannesburg and making it over to Mozambique, eventually crossing over to Zimbabue Gonarezhou NP and continuing to Livingston falls after.
We're renting a fully kitted cruiser and looking for national parks with decent wildlife viewing.

I've been watching overlanding vids and searching the net about NPs in Mozambique but is seems that most people head there for the beaches.

Are there any NPs there worth visiting?

Any suggestion of which route to take through Mozambique from Johannesburg?

Your opinions and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I would suggest you enter in the south at Ressano Garcia, spend a few nights in the Maputo Elephant Reserve either at Membene (decent game viewing but more about the unspoilt ocean/bush environment than the wildlife). From there it all depends on how much time you have in Moz, if 2 weeks you can go right up to Vilanculous and then inland via Zinave National Park to Zim and Gonarezhou.

If limited time then rather spend more time in south, maybe travel up to Santa Maria, and then north past Maputo to Xai Xai from where you head inland to Gonarezhou.

The top park in Moz is Gorongosa, but that's way off track if you planning on getting to Gonarezhou.

Zinave and Gorrongosa are two beautiful parks with nature that you will rarely see. Also a birders paradise and lots of animals.
There are decent camp sites as well.
You can check them out and do your bookings on their websites.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know if you can now self drive in Gorongosa? All the info I can find seems outdated, but everything seems to suggest that self driving is not allowed.

    Thanks

I went to Chimanimani and hiked up to Monte Binga (Mozambique's highest mountain). The place was 100% worth a visit for the scenery. But I am not convinced it's the best location if wildlife viewing is your main aim.

If you want to see wildlife rather go to KNP or Okavango delta. Sadly Mozambique has no serious wildlife management in place, hence poaching has destroyed most of it. And what has managed to survive, is very scared and is avoiding humans. You can see wild animals in Mozambique but it is not like in South Africa, Botswana, Namibie or Zimbabwe
