Sneak peak of our canopy prototype. Finished the basic assembly last night. Final welding this morning, then powdercoat later today. Assembly should be done by tonight.

    That looks great Dawie.
Are you going to stay with steel or will you offer a similar one in aluminum?

3cr12 with aluminium roof and aluminium extrusions for roof support to act as mointings for accessories as well.

Total weight excluding glass is only 68 kg.

I try to avoid aluminium for various reasons. I have done extensive research and came to the conclusion that Alu is not for me. Main reason is weakening the Alu when welding.

For those concerned about rust, we are also prototyping a Zinc coating with our powder coating process. Apparently that stuf gets so hard you cant even sandblast it off.

You have no idea. Just got home. Built our first canopy and a drawer system in 2 days, powder coated, fitted and the vehicle dropped off at Zwartkops. No jigs, just clamping, holding, eyeballing. Was one hell of a job the past 2 days, 30 hours of graft.

That is correct. Just know that it is a prototype, and we will iron out the niggles next week.

Thanks for the chat this morning Dawie. Canopy project looks very nice so far.

For me (not knowing any better) I don't mind a slightly heavier canopy.

I want the thing to last a long time that is my main consideration as far as a canopy is concerned apart from practicality.

Saw your car in the lot. We were really a bit tucked away. But 3 forum members managed to hunt us down.
