My old Basset is standing in front of that rainbow bridge. Fred is 14years old and deaf and blind but otherwise in good health. His sense of smell has made up for not being able to see propprly and his ear... well they never worked, he never listened in any case. He does however know the food bowl and is there in flash.... well let say pretty quickly, e does not run fast anymore.

I am in the process of adopting a rotti from the spca but wow what a rigmarole it is. She is about a 2 year old and looking at her features she is pretty pure bred, her mouth is completely black on the inside and this is trait that is lost with cross breeding. She has a beautifull temperament and is alert and shows the right attitude so lets keep fingers crossed. I miss my rottis they were spoilt rottenweilers
LOL. I often joke and say it's for the world's protection that they are so small. They are lion hearted and seem to think they are lion sized too.

Maybe you had a ghost buster.

I never met one who hasn't barked excessively. When kept busy and they get lots of exercise it seams to get a lot better, but it's still there.

I was thinking the same thing. I think there’s many misconceptions about Dachshunds. I’ll tell you a funny story: my Dachshunds are so well trained that I tell them to be quiet when these guests and you do not hear a squeak out of them. Yet some say they are untrainable. Strong willed yes, that’s what makes them such characters.

    Nope. I cannot agree.

I did know one though that practiced what I called barking time. At exactly 5pm every day where the 4 properties came together all 4 stands little packs gathered at barked ferociously at each other for a minute or so. Then stopped. Did the sniff check. And departed peacefully. The only time we heard any of them. We never did figure out what triggered the behavior. It just started one day. Every one ran out to see what was going on and had a good laugh the first time. Maybe the little comedians were trying for a repeat performance.

Henk, if you mean potty trained, I can assure you my two old ladies are well trained. They jump out the window whenever they need to go.

Here they are standing at my back door. We are busy serving the guests breakfast so they know entry is forbidden.

Had a Bouvier that reached 16. Special dog (yeah I know, they all are). By that time the poor thing could not hold fluid in the bladder, was blind, deaf & senile...but man the will to live in that dog was something special.

old dogs are special creatures, that need to be treasured. We tend to adopt 5-10 year old dogs so we don't always have them for a long time but even so they find a spot in our hearts and us in theirs.
