Default The oldest dog on the forum.

Our two Dachshunds turn 17 on the 9th of November and they are still going very strong. Not much that show their age. We bred them ourselves, kept the whole litter. The other two passed at age 8 and 10 respectively.

Perhaps Tasha and Frank may yet live to be the oldest dogs on the forum.

That's amazing. We had a 19 year old cat, but no dog ever made it past 13.

    Quite impressive ancient ones.

Dogs get quite old judging by the top 10 list. I’d love to know what the forum record is.

This isn't what I expected from the Thread title. I was going to offer up Sean, Keith as starters. I guess not ..

Yup….that’s what I thought. Hence the “canines only” caveat 🤣

Yea sykes. Those old dogs have teeths. The one braai's 8 days a week and the other rides around in a Raptor. Both are a menace to society but they share an amazing spirit. A mega one.

Well, that will end up being a small dog.
The bigger the dog (breed), the shorter their life.

SWAMBO and I have had boxers now for 35+ years... I think the oldest one we had, was 12.
The American boxers line tend to get about 2 years older.
But still no competition for the tiny breeds.

And I hope and bet (honest answer from you) almost no vaccines?! My next collie will be from a breeder that does not vaccinate the litter. Hard to find I guess.

Have a black footed Wild Cat (yes) from kitty, now 18 years. Still chasing doves in the garden.

We had a weimaraner that almost got to 16 years old. And she had vaccinations whenever she needed them for boosters etc.

Not vaccinating against something like parvo virus for a dog is just plain cruel and stupid.

Sakes... did you fail to get enough attention as a child?

We had a pair of worsies when I grew up that both reached 16 before they passed on. Not from old age either. Horrifically, they got out the property while the electrician was working on our gate and then both got hit by a car.

Then we got a golden retriever who just-just didn't make it to 15 and passed away from cancer.

My uncle's lab is well on his way to 16, but not really im great shape anymore.

The oldest dog I've met was a regular in the park here nearby. A 21-year-old lab-mix who was still mobile when I last saw her. The owner, also an elderly gentleman said that they never missed a walk in the park during her entire life. One day earlier this year I saw him walking without her in the park, and so I assume she has now also passed on.

But imagine! Healthy and walking in the park at 21!

My Jack Russell cross is in her 15th year.
She was sterilised at around 2 if I remember correctly and hasn't been back at a vet until about 3months ago when the house sitter got a bit panicky about a festering sore.

My boy Matt made it to 16. So did his brother from the same litter which was owned by my SIL.

Currently our oldest labby is 13 years old and still very young at heart but the body gets tired quickly and then she needs a nice long nap. I'm hoping she is around for a long time still but at 13 she is the oldest we have had so far.

We have had two Weimaraner's, first both got to 11 years. first one succumbed to a twisted stomach and surgery didn't help, second died of tick bite fever.

our third one now will be 1 year old in October. Last night he chewed up the T.V remote while we were having dinner in the Kitchen.

The first two years requires a lot of patience

I'm impressed that they can go a lot further in age
