    INFO. WEENEN GAME RESERVE:

Some info. - Copied from Safarinow website re the reserve: (Safarinow.com) and NO. I have no vested interest in that organisation - just happened to find this useful info. there.

    Quote:
Weenen Game Reserve presents many scenic and game viewing opportunities for visitors on foot or from their vehicle. The Bushman’s River surges through a spectacular gorge carved into undulating hills and valleys of KwaZulu-Natal thornveld.

Black and white rhino as well as giraffe, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, kudu, ostrich and common reedbuck have been re-introduced. Other species to spot include grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbok, mountain reedbuck, hyena and black-backed jackal. With more than 251 bird species, stunning scenery and the rich wildlife and vegetation, Weenen is growing in popularity as a small but worthwhile wildlife destination for both day trippers and stopovers.

Features include a hide at one of the waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites all equipped with braai facilities, one with a magnificent view site. Accommodation facilities at the camp include 12 camping or caravan sites, some with electricity connections; and ablution facilities. There is also a fully-equipped cottage with a braai spot and an exclusive picnic site next to a waterhole.
Weenen has three self-guided trails, and guided walks can be arranged.
    END QUOTE.

    Come and join us over an extended weekend in October ? (WE = 18 / 19. Extended = 16 - 20)

Waking up in the morning is a good start. Then remember never ever to cross off the last item on your "bucket list" before first adding at least one more !!

Let's see what responses we get, then can go into more specifics.
It would not be so much of a 4x4 off-road experience though, unless someone knows of some trail not too far from it.
More of just a social weekend in nature.

Erica and i have stayed there at least 3 times over the years - but all way back like 10 years ago +
So I'm not sure how it is there now.
But being SANPB I am expecting at least a basic standard in place.

I am prepared to drive this one IF there is enough interest.

Depending on when you decide, I may perhaps feel like doing a road trip down from GP.

Peter, to my view there is already enough interest judging from the above comments and once a date is set i suspect more will be generated I am also more than willing to pitch in to assist.

To that end, I would suggest the weekend of 11 OCT 2024?? It gives people enough time to plan and is not close to a month end where people might be too busy / stressed.

It is my birthday on the 19th. You can use that as an excuse to have a fop even before the 1st aircraft flies over.
    You can thank me later.
I hope you all have a great get-together, and maybe I'll get my ducks in a row one day to join you Natal bunch.

Isuzu update: REplaced the diesel supply solenoid today - hopefully after many 10's of thousands spent this R 500 "fix" solves the longstanding problem.
Ja, time will tell, must admit that by now I am losing faith just a little. (Eish).
    Anyway, back on topic:
The weather is looking great as per the SAWS forecast for Weenen area.
Sunny and hot days and cool or benign night temperatures.
    Thursday : 30 / 13
    Friday : 34 / 14
    Saturday : 35 / 16
    Sunday 36 / 10 (? Eish ??!)

    Anyway that is per SAWS.
Should be a great weekend together in nature and the park also has an interesting history.
Lots of historical sites in the region close by and plenty to see.
I believe that the park and facilities have been upgraded since I was last there many years back, so we shall see what we shall see.
I am sure that we will enjoy this small nature reserve in the KZN midlands (kinda).

Looking forward too seeing yu all there.

    Graham # sleeps ?
    I think (for me) , now = 6 !
It's like Christmas used to be when I was a child.

I so wish that my grand and great grandchildren could join me, but they simply live waaaay too far away.
    I can still WISH.

    See you good folk SOON.

    Hi Peter,

Looking forward to it and the warm weather! A few weeks ago I was camping when the cold and wet weather came through so this hopefully will make a nice change.

I am likely to arrive in mid to late afternoon on Friday. I got to spend some time in the office.
    Paul.
