INFO. WEENEN GAME RESERVE:
Some info. - Copied from Safarinow website re the reserve: (Safarinow.com) and NO. I have no vested interest in that organisation - just happened to find this useful info. there.
Quote:
Weenen Game Reserve presents many scenic and game viewing opportunities for visitors on foot or from their vehicle. The Bushman’s River surges through a spectacular gorge carved into undulating hills and valleys of KwaZulu-Natal thornveld.
Black and white rhino as well as giraffe, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, kudu, ostrich and common reedbuck have been re-introduced. Other species to spot include grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbok, mountain reedbuck, hyena and black-backed jackal. With more than 251 bird species, stunning scenery and the rich wildlife and vegetation, Weenen is growing in popularity as a small but worthwhile wildlife destination for both day trippers and stopovers.
Features include a hide at one of the waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites all equipped with braai facilities, one with a magnificent view site. Accommodation facilities at the camp include 12 camping or caravan sites, some with electricity connections; and ablution facilities. There is also a fully-equipped cottage with a braai spot and an exclusive picnic site next to a waterhole.
Weenen has three self-guided trails, and guided walks can be arranged.
END QUOTE.
Come and join us over an extended weekend in October ? (WE = 18 / 19. Extended = 16 - 20)

Answering the call of the wild is just so much better than answering the mobile.
Waking up in the morning is a good start. Then remember never ever to cross off the last item on your "bucket list" before first adding at least one more !!

Depending on when you decide, I may perhaps feel like doing a road trip down from GP.![]()

Peter, to my view there is already enough interest judging from the above comments and once a date is set i suspect more will be generatedI am also more than willing to pitch in to assist.
To that end, I would suggest the weekend of 11 OCT 2024?? It gives people enough time to plan and is not close to a month end where people might be too busy / stressed.
Paul.
Perhaps hear if jaconell wants to come along so that I can make fun of his castle lite and manbag...
On a serious note: I may not make the 11th - I have commitments on the 4th and two weekends of camping in a row may be problematic between kids / work / pets etc.
But let's see. Perhaps it works, or I can join another one. Besides - not sure if I am always welcome everywhere...![]()

Tentative. My daughter is home for October, so we generally spend as much time with her as possible. Weekend of 11th is out, milestone birthday for my wife and a few events being planned. 18th might work. But lots of interest anyway, so I can tag along if we're free.
I'm keen. Not sure if the dates work. 11th Doesn't work as I am doing a trail run in Himeville.
But if that date works for everyone else thats cool.

Looks as though 18th may be it.
Any further comments or suggestions before I lock it down?
Paul thanks for the offer to assist. I will contact you on that should there be any need.
For me the dates are not critical, so I can accommodate the majority choice.
Once that is done it would help to know approx number of participants so that I can check available campsites with SANPB.
As I recall it is quite a small camping area so most likely prudent to check available sites.

Hi Peter,
We have our camp site near the main gate which you need to bring a long all you need, there is a kitchen sink behind the ablution with hot water for washing dishes. The ablutions have toilets and hot showers,
then we have Nyandu bush camp where tents and a communal kitchen are already set up with cutlery and crockery, here you are just required to bring bedding and food.
There are also showers and flushing toilets and then there is a cottage that sleeps four.
At Nyandu there are 10 tents and you can fit a family of 4 in 8 of them. 2 of them will fit 2 people

A bit ambiguous but gives some idea of options.
From what I can suss out the rates are as follows:
12 camping sites (5 with no power, 7 with) Min. charge R 300 / 330 pn.
Cottage R 300 pppn (Minimum R 600)
Tented Bush Camp R 200 pppn, minimum R 1 200 pn.
Also not that clear, however gives an indication.
When we have a list of participants and # persons maybe I can get more specific info.

I may just decide to go with the cottage or Tented camp if practical to share costs and accommodation, otherwise I would camp.
That's just me.
