Peter, just bear in mind that the three different sets of accommodation are quite a distance from each other and you may not drive between them in the evening.

Waking up in the morning is a good start. Then remember never ever to cross off the last item on your "bucket list" before first adding at least one more !!

So is it a go?
We will book to arrive on Wednesday 16th and leave on Monday 21st October (Because everyday is a weekend & its far to drive just for 2 nights)
By the way Peter Weenen Nature Reserve is under KZN Wildlife & not National Parks, & Rhino Card does work.

Yes, let's make it a GO.
I may also come through a day earlier than the weekend.
I have noted the fact that the different accommodation options are apparently far apart which is a pity, but I guess, depending on numbers participating, we could stick to the camping area.
I have not been there for very many years, so things could be somewhat different now, but comments seem to have been generally favourable.
So we can start locking down potential participants then.
Bookings will need to be made individually and payments directly to the park.
Please send me confirmation so that we know who is actually committed.

I'll get back on this early next week. Should be OK for me - considering it is quite in advance. I'll probably also look at starting the drive down a day or two early. Ek hou van gatskuur.
JacoNell - are your manbag and Heinken Silvers going to be there ? Can I bring you some Castle Lite ?![]()

Currently in the sweatshop Peter, toiling away, close to the end of the third and final project I've committed to for the Jemmin masters. I'd want to spend a few more days at Weenen, Friday and Sunday, at the moment critique, so to speak. And my daughter will be home, but she smaaks camping so might join us.
We'll see.
Edit - and I see Graeme is going to be there early, I'd hate to ruin his DW by arriving on Thursday or Friday.. 🤔

OK, so confirmed for weekend of 18/19/20 Oct. Campsites.
Phume would be the lady to contact +27 (73) 980-5301 for your bookings. She will give further info on the wildcard and pensioner options
Graeme has an email address for her which may be better than calling .... [email protected]
Thanks Graeme.
Some of us plan to arrive 16th and return on the Monday. I may do similar.
When once I have a few confirmations of bookings I will make a list of those expecting to attend - seems to be some interest, so should be a nice group.
Not counting sleeps YET.

Some info. - Copied from Safarinow website re the reserve: (Safarinow.com) and NO. I have no vested interest in that organisation - just happened to find this useful info. there.
Quote:
Weenen Game Reserve presents many scenic and game viewing opportunities for visitors on foot or from their vehicle. The Bushman’s River surges through a spectacular gorge carved into undulating hills and valleys of KwaZulu-Natal thornveld.
Black and white rhino as well as giraffe, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, kudu, ostrich and common reedbuck have been re-introduced. Other species to spot include grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbok, mountain reedbuck, hyena and black-backed jackal. With more than 251 bird species, stunning scenery and the rich wildlife and vegetation, Weenen is growing in popularity as a small but worthwhile wildlife destination for both day trippers and stopovers.
Features include a hide at one of the waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites all equipped with braai facilities, one with a magnificent view site. Accommodation facilities at the camp include 12 camping or caravan sites, some with electricity connections; and ablution facilities. There is also a fully-equipped cottage with a braai spot and an exclusive picnic site next to a waterhole.
Weenen has three self-guided trails, and guided walks can be arranged.
END QUOTE.
Come and join us over an extended weekend in October ? (WE = 18 / 19. Extended = 16 - 20)
Cupla social bring and braai's may go down well after the days viewing game , twitching (The twitchers do that I think) - how does THAT relate to or derive from "tweeting" I wonder"
Maybe we should ask Elon, but then he went and X-ed that! (Eish?)

Right - I am going to have to withdraw from this. Not that I really confirmed... My schedule has just filled up completely for October... Sorry....
I think I've met Peter. I was looking forward to meeting to some of the other KZN folkses. But next time.
