    Default Botswana 2025 Trip

We are planning a trip to Vic falls in April 2025 and would appreciate some pointers. Will be around 18 people all with caravans and trailers.

Plan so far is as follows.

Friday 11 Apr 2024 - Alberton to Thabazimbi
Saturday 12 April 2024 - Thabazimbi to Elephant Sands
Sunday 13 April 2024 - Rest day Elephant Sands
Monday 14 April 2024 - Elephant Sands to Chobe Safari Lodge
Tuesday 15 April 2024 to Thursday 17 April 2024 - 3 days at Chobe Safari Lodge, planning to do a day tour to Vic Falls, self drive into Chobe and a river safari.....Anything else we must add?
Friday 18 April 2024 - Chobe Safari Lodge to Goo Moremi Gorge
Saturday 19 April 2024 - spend day at Goo Moremi
Sunday 20 April 2024 - Goo Moremi Gorge back to Alberton.

We have booked and paid for camp sites at Elephant Sands and Chobe Safari Lodge. Still not sure about Goo Moremi gorge. Will this be a ggod option or is there better alternatives.

I suppose it comes down to your preferences for a trip but for me that is a long drive for not a lot of time in the "prime" destinations. Personally I would spend more time in the Chobe area (perhaps Ihaha?). It seems you have a long distance to cover only to virtually arrive and turn around.

I'm not sure if I would choose to spend much time at Goo Moremi. I would see it more as a stop over rather than a destination.

Same applies for Elephant Sands, you will get bored after 24 hours rather spend some time at Senyati.

I have to agree with Half-pint and Kalahari Safari.

You drive a lot to just turn around. Elephant Sands was not quite what we expected and agree, this is a stop-over place (but dinner and breakfast was really good). Rather than having a rest day here (or losing a day), push off early the next morning and spend afternoon and evening at Senyati.

Then your stay at Chobe Safari lodge, it seems you have a busy itinerary, maybe see if you can add a day there (cut a day from Goo Moremi) if you want to Vic-Falls, River Cruise and self-drive.

Lastly do Goo Moremi as a stopover (unless you want to do the hike).

    Just my thoughts.

Planning a similar trip in the same period but from Cape Town. Is one day to Vic Falls enough? My gut says 2-3 days to add some activities.

To just drive to Chobe and back does not make sense.
1 night at Elephant sands, it is actually only a good stop over, no shade and much to do.
Senyati is a wonderful place, lots of buffalo and elephants, whit lions roaring at night. They will also arrange the Vic Falls trip for you. Close to Kasane to do a sunset cruise on the Chobe River, 3 nights.
Then drive to Savuti for 2 nights.
Then of to Khwai Community for 3 nights, one of the best places in Botswana.
From there to Rhino sanctuary via Maun and the home.

Agree with the river cruise while staying at Chobe, I think a 3 day stay entitles you to a freebie. Goo Moremi is worth it but mostly for the hike into the gorge which takes about 3 hours of the morning so just an overnight. From there we went to Tuli staying at Limpopo River Lodge camp the game drive in the property is well worth it also about 3 hours. You can exit at Platjan border post and then you have Mapungubwe right there if you want to include that. I would have suggested Pontdrift and Solomons Wall but I doubt Pontdrift would be passable in April, but Solomons on it's own is worth seeing.

Some great ideas thrown out , but they are for info for their next trip. Bookings have been made and paid. As long as they realise that this is mainly a tar road trip , with bookings at camp sites that have all the amenities that is family friendly and relatively tame for Botswana. It seems like the main idea is Vic Falls , with some camping on the way …….nothing wrong with that plan.

Next time they might consider an off-road trip to Botswana and then all the suggestions will come in real handy.

@BAJ….When on your Chobe game drives , check out IHAHA for you next trip . Enjoy the trip and pick up some nice ideas here for your next off-road adventure
