Default Vehicle requirements for Zimbabwe and fuel help

    HI all

I got this from the forum, is there anything else , I heard you need yellow reflective tape around the whole car as well and what about the yellow reflective jackets?

    Vehicle requirements

    • White and Red Reflective Tape: Two small white rectangular size strips on the right and left hand side of the front bumper as well as two small red square strips on the right and left hand side of the rear bumper. If towing a trailer, two small red square strips on the right and left hand side of the rear bumper are required
    • Warning Triangles: Two warning triangles.
    • White and Red T-sign: Required if towing a trailer; white must be displayed on front right hand side of trailer / caravan and red on the rear right hand side of the trailer / caravan, when looking forward.
    • Fire Extinguisher: Compulsory

    secondly

Can anyone recommend fuel stops and food shops for the following

    exiting Hwange near Silwane
    matopos
    near vumba mountains
    chiredzi

we are in gonarezhou for 8 nights before exiting at Sango border to get to Pafuri, is chiredzi the only place for fuel or is there somewhere else?

    thanks in advance

The actual regulations (unless changed - someone please advise if so) - Statutory Instrument 129 of 2015 (easy to find with google).

We found that the requirements are rigorously interpreted with respect to fire extinguisher capacity (we had 3 extinguishers with a total capacity of 1.5 Kg but they failed to meet the requirement for "a serviceable fire extinguisher weighing a minimum of zero comma seven five kilograms").

We had the red and white reflective tape but it was not the honeycomb type (we were directed to buy new tape at a shop alongside the police station (curiously enough).

We also found the requirements for warning triangles were impossible to meet with any triangles we could find other than in truck stops in the USA (which is where we bought them). The source for the extract below doesn't specify dimensions, however the regulations state "Sides of triangle, s =50 mm wide, length of sides, l = 425 mm".

re fuel stops and food shops near Silwane:

There's a filling station at Halfway House - they may have some groceries however I haven't stopped there. The nearest I know are in Hwange and in Bulawayo.

re fuel stops and food shops near Matopos:

I think your best bet is Bulawayo.

There is a small petrol station right in front of Hwange HQ where you normally would pass by coming from / going to Silwane

Sorry I have another question as the regulations are 185 pages and I may have missed it but do we need a police clearance certificate for our ford ranger ?

And how many reflective jackets does one need with the two red triangles?

    kind regards
    Michelle

When we're you last there? We were there a year ago and our experience was quite different. 12 police stops in total. Asked to show drivers licence once. No other checks. Apparently the police have been instructed to leave visitors alone.

No police clearance required. One jacket per person inside vehicle.

We have just returned from a two week trip through Zimbabwe.

Passed thorough about 10 roadblocks. Only at the first one after the Plumtree Border Post, I was asked for my Drivers License and the eTIP (Temporary Import Permit). At all the other ones we were either waved through or stopped for a quick hello, asked where we are heading and wished a save journey by friendly officers.
A member of our group that flew to Harare and rented a vehicle there was told by the rental company that the police have been instructed to leave tourists alone.

I brought the following reflective tape from Outdoor Warehouse:

Good to hear - it's been a while now. We need to get back before long... although the plan for next year is South Asia : )
