Driving from Livingstone to Siavonga

Hi,

I would be very grateful for any help/advice regarding the journey from Livingstone to Siavonga and particularly; (1) can it sensibly be done in one day; (2) what is the road like; and (3) how long (roughly) it will take.

It can be done in one day, about 9-10hrs taking it sensibly. Stick to the main tar road,Livingstone to Turnpike then turn right down the escarpment, then right to Siavonga, some pot holes on his last section.
Road is good all the way, the only "rough"part is from Monze to Mazabuka, potholes tar.
Every village has speed bumps and some are harsh.
Plenty of fuel stations enroute and some half decent food stops, especially if you like chicken and chips.
Speed traps can be anywhere so stick to the advised speed limits.
There are plenty of trucks on the road so be careful overtaking.

I've taken the "shortcut" before where you turn at Chisekesi then join the d500. Releatively poor gravel from the turn off until you reach the d500, d500 was very good tar and a quiet road and a lovely drive winding through valley and villages. much nicer than the 'highway'

Can second that, although it might take longer in time it is much more relaxed and scenic to drive.
If you can spare a day, try to camp in one of the villages en-route.

We were late and approached the school, talking to the headmaster, he then arranged for us to camp on their soccer field with 1st class vista and good contacts with village folks.

Very friendly people and a good experience.

We then donated some pencils and books to the school and everybody was happy.

Ive used that route many times but now I avoid it, I came across 2 broken down 40tonne trucks and had to turn around and head back to the main road
