Default Route advise - PTA - Baviaanskloof - Plett

    Morning all,

Starting to look at options for a route in December, down to Plett.
I have never been to Baviaans, so don't know the place.

Was thinking of traveling with the Jeep, although fuel will be a killer. I'm worried about a 4x2 in Baviaans.

I was thinking of doing PTA - Patensie - Baviaans - Willowmore - Plett
Need to sort out a route and book accommodation.

    Advise will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Bumpity, bump

So the plan I have is to get to Patensie over two days.
Sleep over around Patensie and travel through the kloof to Uitspan on the other side. Is this doable? Do I need the 4x4 for this?

From Uitspan to Plett via the pass from Uniondale. I assume this is doable, if it is open.

Some extra advise will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Your plan is good.
Baviaans is beautiful. An amazing drive. You can do it in a day but it will be 8 hours drive just through the kloof more or less. So really a full days driving.
Take the time, enjoy it an do it over 3 days. Sleeping over 2 nights at different locations. Exit on day 3 onto Willowmore.
4x4 is not strictly needed, 4x2 with difflock is also OK. You need ground clearance and a few water crossings (depth depending on the amount of rain). 4x4 will give you piece of mind.

Pass from Avontuur to Plett is the Prins Alfred Pass. Also a beautiful drive. It will take atleast 2 - 2.5hours driving the pass to Plett, work on 3 to admire enjoy the views as well and a coffee/picnic stop. Normally relatively good condition but a 4x4 or SUV is preferred over a normal sedan passengers car. Can be very rocky in places, not good for normal passenger cars tyres.

Have a look at this page:
