Very true, I used to work on only the basic mechanics of petrol engines, but with this one, I've done mechanic, electrical, electronic and even went as far as opening all the panels to do the sound deadening myself ,🤣

So im actually going to use this thread to record all my repairs so in case anyone experiences the same issues, it might be able to help.

Maybe also add the mods I've done to the vehicle too?

    What do you think?🤔

Additional repairs done on my vehicle lately on 85 000km

Had the turbo rebuilt because of a whining sound and EGR cleaned.

Turbo balancing was out and apparently the turbo vane went faulty. I have attached some photos,

After replacing egr gaskets and cleaning it out, I can hear the turbo spooling now and boost pressure is up to 1bar

    After having the above sorted,

    Max boost is 1.3 bar

Town diesel consumption is 13-15 km/l
    Highway on 100-110km/h is 17-18km/l
Highway on 120km/h with overtaking multiple trucks and mildy loaded is 16.4 km/l

I can say now that I am happy.

Next project is to have EGR blanked off and maybe go stage 1 tuning, one day when the money says yes for the tuning

Was this Diesel consumption tested tank to tank filling or on the consumption indicator

The figures are on the indicator, Im actually doing a tank to tank test right now, filled it up full until "first click".

Im trying an "actual live environment test", to see what it gives. You know, the whole daily traffic, hard acceleration, but not always, only when needed, soft driving, that whole mixup, driving around parking lots to get parking.

I filled up at 85422km (10ppm), I'm currently on half tank on 86209km
    (65% Highway 35% Town)

Also note that I tried this product when I filled up (Bardahl Diesel Fuel Conditioner (DFC) with Cetane)

Seems to make a noticeable difference, well to me that is.

Thanks, took alot of time and patience, but now I am happy with the outcome, that's the other problem of buying a used vehicle, you dont know what issues you are going to face even though the car had such low mileage

My next project is to fit a Isuzu MUX suspension setup (or any other SUV shocks that may almost fit that wont cost me an arm and leg) since the shocks on these cars are very expensive

Did a tank to tank test, with my final results, 40% highway, 60% town

Some hard accelerations and sometimes driving like its a Sunday (Alot of stop 'n bietjie hier en daar)

    • This is what the trip computer gave me - 14.5 km/L

    • What I calculated - 14.6 km/L

    • What my Android App told me - 6.86L/100km

Not too far out with the accuracy with the on board computer

Another repair done to the vehicle @ 89 000km

And I may have possibly found what the issue may have been when the previous owner overheated the vehicle.

I noticed some coolant loss but very minimal up until I took a drive to the Golden Gate National Park. Got back home and saw my coolant was below minimum. I kind of ruled out anything within the engine because it was overhauled on 70 000km

Traced some coolant residue and found my culprit.

The water pipe going from the engine block to what looks like the transmission cooler was split at the bottom end, snipped a bit off and fixed it and topped up with water up until I get proper anti freeze this week

I just want to update whoever has an XUV500 or planning to purchase one, there is a way to check the error codes the vehicle currently has, for those who don't know this trick.

Hold in the Mute and Settings button and scroll down to read DTC, hope this helps, although it won't give you the description, you can always look it up, or you can PM me, I have a list of some of the codes.
