I presume you mean the Chirundu-Chiawa-LZNP road? No problem, it is a well used, reasonably maintained dirt road. Don't forget your SAPS/Interpol clearance certificate for your vehicle going through Chirundu, they are strict about it there.

Hi There,
We are planning an overlanding trip, visit to Mana Pools (Zims) and then off to Lower Zambezi NP on the Zambian side, GPS or any other map that ive checked does not pick up the road that is accesible along the Zambezi river directly from Chirundu to the Lower Zambezi NP, has anyone used this road in the dry season recently? not too concerned about river crossings as it will be dry season.
Thank You

Hi Tony, Yes indeed the road from Chirundu via Chiawa, that sounds great, do you know approx how long would it take us to get to LZNP entrance gate using that road? are there any serious river crossings? keeping in mind we would be travelling during Oct?
Thank You too for the heads up on the police clearance certificate too,
Much appreciated
Kind Regards

Been a while since I did some work there and we choppered in, went back by road. Only river crossing of any note is the Chongwe at the park border. But October should be completely dry. It's about 100km from Chirundu to the park entrance so I would guess two to three hours - we did Chiawa to Lusaka in a very easy day on the return journey.

See my answer to that question in Zambia TR post. Very easy until the next rains, just a long day because the east exit takes a while and you will want to maximize your time on the west side.
