    Default New Mercedes-AMG C63 - no more V8

Merc have slotted in a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine, made it into a plug-in hybrid to give it a total output of 500kW and 1,020Nm and in the process dumped the V8.

To make the world’s most powerful four cylinder able to produce 350kW and 545Nm is no easy task, and it’s a peach to be sure.

faster yes, better... I doubt it. Time will tell if the public will buy a 4 cylinder AMG.

"The real sound of the engine is piped into the cabin via a pressure sensor in the exhaust system and also modulated via exterior loudspeakers, I suppose another reason for the chit chat.

Weighing in at 89kg, the C63’s battery has a capacity of 6.1kWh and boasts a continuous output of 70kW and a peak output of 150kW for 10 seconds."

Crunch the numbers and you only have about 4min of battery power available, the reality is in 95% of "hard" city driving where you squirt and coast you wont notice the battery running down. It is nice that you can drive on electric only.

350kw and 545nm out of a 2L engine is not a lot, we almost get that from a 10+ year old Nissan engine without anything too fancy. HOWEVER that power from production engine you have a 5 year/100km maintenance plan on, now that is special and brave.

100% Anton, lets see how long these engines last. Suzuki is famous for 1000HP's from two litres, see their Pikes Peak cars, but, its rebuilt after every hill climb.

I wonder what you will hear in the speakers. Maybe an electric motor doing a star delta startup. 🤣

All about knowing your target market... I think C63 sales will show them that this was a mistake. Keep the V8, that was always the selling point, and introduce the 2.0 hybrid as its own separate model...

The exact point of getting the amg is power and speed really. If I can outpace your v8 with my 4-pot, does your v8 then make any sense?

no, its more than just the power. I get goosies just cruising and hearing the v8 burble, no 4 pot with speakers will replace that

Nah, if speed is what you're after, buy an M3/M4... The 55AMG's and 63AMG's were never about being the fastest, but definitely the loudest and most lairy...

Nope, most AMG sales, if not all, are driven by the engine noise. As a non Merc fan, I have to admit they make the best sounding v8 engines.

There are already rumours that this 4pot hybrid will not make it in the next C63 AMG.
