Why would you want a double cab bakkie if you already have a nice cumfy SUV?

    Not cranky at all.

Just stating the facts……double cab bakkies are pointless.

    Jaco,

It also matters how one can adjust your legs in the back seat. Sometimes there's no space to adjust your feet which becomes very uncomfortable on long drives when the back seater has to maintain the same position without being able to adjust. So how many fingers above your head, how close your knees are to your ears and how deep you can push your feet below the seat in front of you are the 3 things I use to determine how much viable space there is in the back. Oh, and how flimsy the seat cushion is which means fatigue big time sets in. But that you can still do something about post the fact.

I could be wrong, but I suspect Jaco's rear seat passengers (while tall), are also young, which would indicate they are much more flexible and less susceptible to discomfort on longer journeys (I know I was just glad to be able to tag along when I was much younger)

Jaco, perhaps you are looking at this incorrectly, get a Corsa bakkie (or similar,m but the Corsa is the best), use that for all the bakkie stuff and keep the SUV for the family stuff. Not as mucho as a bakkie when going on a hunt, but works perfectly for everything else. Alos, I have never owned a bakkie while i have been hunting, and a venter trailer (towed behind my SUV) has always worked perfectly for that.

Unless the shorties get banned to the back seat... in which case seniority might make some impact.

You don't need more confirmation but I saw the opportunity to complain a bit
I recently sat in the back row for a couple of 100ks in a previous gen Ford raptor and my conclusion is I will never ever do it again.

Get a full size SUV like a Cruiser or Patrol.

We found this as well. Goinfg to test drive new Amarok in my old one. My sons coud not get in the new one comfortably. As you say it seems the seat is lower which negates the extra leg room for taller people. The roof is definitely lower as well. The width of the old Amarok was also much better for rear (and front) passengers. For interest sake I cannot get in the new Amarok drivers seat without bashing my head on the door jamb. (I dont knock my head at all getting in my Jimny or for that matter my SJs) A lot of manufacturers put the seat lower and further from the front seat giving the impression of more space, they then also often shorten the seat giving the impression of more space. As said before the only way to test is to load everyone in and see.. A good example was the beetle which did not have huge leg room but when I was in the army we seated five big guys in it easily as the seat squab is higher off thew floor.

My 14 year old 1.84m son can sit behind me comfortably in the old amarok.

From here it becomes easy - a new MUX when the time comes. I am too old & stupid to stray from brands that has served me well.

I have just rehabilitated a 1999 Frontier and must agree with you. I have not measured but it may even have more legroom in the rear than a G-wagon.

True but the seat needs to be lifted quite a bit to be really comfortable

As mooted above - this has become an academic exercise for me - maybe valuable to other chaps wondering about the same thing.

My circumstances clearly dictates another SUV. It was just a pleasant itch looking at D/Cabs. However, I will say this - had I gone ahead my mind was made up. The latest model, lowest mileage real V6 Amarok I would have been able to find.
