    Default Visa requirements

For Tanzania, I understand that SA passports don't require visas - it's this correct?

German passport holders - is a visa required? And if so, is it available on arrival, and how much?
    Thanks.

Best is to first check the countries immigration page for the latest requirements. They change policies quicker than a coalition party changes its mind in South Africa. Just check on the website. Good luck

From our trip report Jan-Feb 2024. We set off early on Sunday 21 January and three hours later, we were at Namanga. As always, we stopped at the pleasant Namanga River Lodge for coffee to fortify ourselves. The crossing into Tanzania at the one-stop border was relatively painless and we arrived in Arusha around lunchtime. Tanzanian visas were available at the border.

We crossed from Zambia to Tanzania at the sleepy Kasesya border crossing. We're on US passports and dutifully got e-visa approval online ahead of time, with the requisit approval letter that you print out. But the women at immigration said she had never seen one before!

I'm sure it will change to preapproval only eventually, but I believe the official policy is that nationalities that require visas are supposed to apply ahead of time, but in practice they do issue visas at the land borders because it is just more practical.
