    Question Which car...

    Hi

I've moved to Gaborone. I am wanting to buy a suitable car.
I see myself wanting to go to Mozambique (Vilankukos, Bilene, Tofo, Ponta do Ouro to kite surf and surf), and in time likely Namibia, Zim, Zambia and shorter trips within Botswana whereever those may be (bush getaway, fishing)...and to CT.

So long drives. Some adventuring. Need space for gear. I seek comfort but don't have a budget for Defender. Max likely R1.2m.

So without knowing the terrain or likely terrain, would a SUV like a Mazda CX60 do fine, or does one need a 4x4 with greater ground clearance and 4x4 capabilities?

Thought of an Everest, Pajero. Not set on anything.

    First post - welcome !

4x4 for sure for your needs and locations

maxda cx 60 is not a suv , not even close, only good for parking lots and maybe driving on the grass in front of your house

if you single, get a bakkie for gear or a real 4x4 suv , plenty options for your budget

believe you can get a second hand defender for your budget no problem

Having a Fortuner myself i can recommed it. Comfortable, not too big, very offroad capable. If you need more space for camping gear etc. a bakkie with canopy would be more even suitable.

At 1.2m, I would think you can buy any fancy 4x4 with very low mileage. With the economy being where it is, most dealers will be keen to give discounts.

Toss Up between the New Prado and the Patrol.

    Power and functions: Patrol!

I like the Diesel donkey engine in the Prado for its fuel consumption.

Everest would also come into the picture.
