Default 2015 Grand Cherokee Overland gearbox leak

Not sure if anyone has experienced this problem. My gearbox is leaking and apparently all seals and gearbox sump need to be replaced. This is coming to R25k.

I have the Titanium AA warranty and it won't cover this repair as it is seals and not a component failure. Painful but true. See the seals comment on attached.

Has anyone else had this issue ?

Leave it leaking until all the oil is out.
You will then have a component failure.
Now you are eligible to claim from the warranty.

During the component failure repair they will also replace the seals and oil.

Who quoted you 25K to replace the seals? The dealer?

You not rebuilding the box. Should be much less.

A proper gearbox repair might be much more than R25K though... and they might claim negligence and deny the claim.

Also, are you sure its not the oil cooler leaking. Fairly common issue and has a upgraded after market part for the 3,6.

Trips down the V of the engine and comes out at the top of the gearbox so can be hard to diagnose.

We did a gearbox sump gasket for a client with a 2014 3.6 V6 and it was R2100 incl labour. OEM Jeep part.

This is true especially as the claim was logged. I only have 128k on the clock and been off road a handful of times.

Not sure. Thanks for this. I got the info from the gearbox place but can take it for a 2nd opinion

If you needed the sump as well, Jeep would not have sold the gasket separately.

If it is just the sump seal I would do that repair yourself. Its as simple as it gets. However not sure when you say all seals.. I'm guessing that the repair shop is looking to load that claim amount.

Recently I have experienced exorbitant amounts being quoted for repairs.
My warranty was willing to do the replacement, so I dd not seek alternative quotes.... Maybe just repair centres squeezing as much as they can from warranties

6K for a Fluid pressure sensor. (Real cost to import part R600 + 5min install)
27K for Solenoid replacement, which 16k was quoted for the part only. (Once again, the imported cost of that part would be closer to 2.5k if I was going to do it myself)
If you don't have a sense of humour, you probably don't have any sense.

Are you connected with ZF? I think that I might have to get my Stevio's box checked out, she sometimes has this delay and then jump into second gear, as if she forget that we were still driving, when I decelerate and then start to accelerate again and she's starting this more often now. Is there a ZF specialist in Randburg?

ZF is in Germiston/Edenvale for JHB. Right next to the R24.
Sounds like yours might benefit from a software update.

Thank you Alwyn, I actually haven't considered that. I have to say I'm more wary of a software upgrade, mine's a 2018 model and I've heard or read somewhere that it can bugger up some aspects of the functionality. I'll look a bit on the Stelvio forum.
