Default Iona - new rules / fees / map

I am pleased to share with the community visitor relevant information regarding Iona National Park, updated May 2024.
Including a fantastic map of the park.
Note that wild camping is no longer allowed, there are 12 designated camping areas now.

Excellent! Thank you. Filed for planning the "big trip after next".

Has anybody driven Pediva - Otchifengo - Erola - Oncocua? How demanding should it be? It looks a huge part is through the dry river bed.

    Hi Piotr
Otchifengo - Erola - Oncocua seems to be the regular access for those who drive from Oncocua to Iona. Perhaps you remember my other thread with the red and green route, it would be the green one. A lot of dry riverbed crossings around the park boundary.
Most of the fellow members who visited and reported about their trips turned SW in Otchifengo towards Iona village. Haven't read about the condition of the track from Otchifengo to Pediva.

I did not know this track from Pediva to Otchifengo even exists. First time I saw it in the map you shared here. I looks tough. But I thought the toughest part with many dry rivercrossings is Otchifengo to Iona Village to Espinheira.

The last time I had a look at the Pediva to Otchifengo route, admittedly it was a few years ago, it was more of a motor bike track or goat path. I normally tow a caravan, but even just with the cruiser, the going was so slow, and with so many overgrown bushes that would need trimming, I quickly turned around and just used the Pediva, Espinhera, Iona, Otchifengo route.
