Default SA to gabarone - Which border post?

Needs some advice as to which border to use going into Botswana from SA

We must be in Gaborone this coming Saturday. We have therefore booked at Crocodile Pools (15km south of Gaborone) for Friday and Saturday night.

We will be leaving Jhb around 12h30/13h00 on Friday so will most probably hit the border post around 16h00/16h30. So, take it the border will be very busy that time of day, especially on a Friday afternoon.

I was thinking Skilpadshek border post but someone else suggested the much smaller Swartkopsfontein border post.

Anyone that have used these Border posts that can give me some advice of which one will be better taking into consideration my situation. It will be my me, wife and my daughter travelling.

There should be no issues at either Kopfontien or at Ramatlabama, like any normal crossing look at 20 - 30 min

Kopfontein/Tlokweng is a good option but from where you enter the city at Tlokweng village it will be very busy on a Friday afternoon. It will be slow going.

Personally I think Ramatlabama is a bit out if the way. Far south.

Skilpadhek/Pioneer Gate - 06:00 to 00:00 - will take you straight to Lobatse and then north to Crocodile Pools. Quite a few villages with 60km zones.

Best option will be Swartkopfontein/Ramotswa. Note that it is only open between 07:00 and 18:00. From there it is a short drive to Crocodile Pools.

    I love Sikwane / Derdepoort.

Every time I have crossed there, I have been the only vehicle in the queue.

I will use it again in a week or two when I head up that way again.

Dirt road until the crossing on ZA side. Tar from there to Gabs (depending on which road you take to Gabs, obviously). But I try and stay off the tar as much as I can.

Thanks Ian, we aim to leave Cape Town 4 August. We have confirmed bookings from the 12th to 21 Aug. Busy deciding on which pans to visit before the 12th (availability depending) also waiting for the right last minute SADC special to spoil ourselves in the Delta. Please send pics and travel information when you back in July.

I have PM'd you. Sorry can't be much help as we entered at Two Rivers/Mabuasehube (zero checks) and departed at Ramatlabama. Didn't have any issues anywhere other than the vet fences which we knew were going to be strict.

If you ever need a sleep over before the border you can send me a PM. Camp Moselasela selfcatering at R450p.p.
