Hi all
This might seem a silly question but does anyone know of 4x4 training in either Joburg or Cape Town where they provide the vehicle? I知 planning on a self drive safari later in the year (renting - probably a Hilux) but really want to brush up my skills and learn some important techniques beforehand. All training I seem to be able find stipulate you do the training in your own vehicle (which makes sense, if you have one!). Thanks for any help here

You can "rent" a Land Rover for between R1m and R2m and they throw in an offroad course for free and will supply you a vehicle if you do not want to use your own. But these f-errs are sly. You buy a used Discovery Sport, and they give you a new D5 to do the course with. The thing walks over every (fairly complex) terrain at Gerotec and boom!, next thing you buy a D5.

Hyundai i20 from Avis will work just fine.
Only very helpful info on this thread so far -
I only opened it when I found the request quite odd to see what's all about, and voila, as expected, a non-starter was born .
I would start to read up what is available (on this forum and elsewhere) and get the theory in place.
Driving a 4x4 as such is not rocket science, but experience required is more on recovery and avoidance than use of standard functionality of a vehicle.
You learn as you go, it's part of the adventure .

What about just renting a regular bakkie from AVIS that has some type of 4x4 to do the course with as you will be doing it in a Hilux anyway. It will give you a feel for what is coming. Then you only need to pay bakkie rental for the day or three you are on the course and a day or two after if you want to do a trail nearby to ease you into it.

Hi, we do provide training and can include a vehicle.
It will be costly due to the short period, so worth renting the vehicle also and coming for training
