Default What tyres for Merc ML?

Right so my ML takes 255/55/18 tyres.

Currently has Conti Sport Contact 5 which will have to be replaced before the year is out. I like these tyres a lot, I've had them on previous cars as well. They are smooth, quiet, grippy, good in the wet. They are considered to have a soft compound so they don't last the longest. That said, I shudder to think what will happen if I have to drive on a longer piece of gravel on these. They look like they are made for properly paved roads only.

I have been considering the Conti Cross Contact UHP as they are also highly rated. The "Cross" and by the look of the tread it seems they are "slightly" more suited to some venturing off the tarmac.

Also General Grabber GT is an option.

    Opinions?

I have gen grabber AT 255/55/18 tyres on my ml 350cdi and although noisier on the road have been very happy with these on gravel roads and the odd pothole !
Have towed the Miskruier on the odd gravel road , but find the ML lacking on ground clearance .

I have the same Contis on my car.
I'll be looking at fitting Goodyear Adventure tyres later this year. They are more than adequate for the off-tar excursions my car is likely to face in the future. But more importantly, they are very quiet and very good on tar (wet and dry). They are rated for a max speed of 210 km/h, which is OK for most of the time.

I had 235/60/18 Grabber GT's on the Volvo - horrible things, well for that car. The ride was hard, they literally fell apart for some reason (bits of rubber peeling) and they were noisy between 60-80km/h

They came with the car when I bought it, but like BF's are horrid on some vehicles and seem to work on others, this might be the case. But that was my experience. And ± with still probably 3-4ml left above the replace indicators, they turned rock solid. (manufactured 2020)

I looked around for a month, and obviously price played a factor, eventually settled on Kumho's, they are OEM's for all the korean brands, some audi's, VW's, Nissan's & BM's.

My dad bought his Sorento with Kumho's and was very happy, so I pulled the trigger. I'm not saying this because it was my choice, but they are fantastic so far. Uber quiet (which was my biggest deciding factor) and great grip. They are a softer tyre, so not expecting 50-60km on them, specially being AWD. R2800 each - same price as some Bridgestones and the Grabber GT

    GY Wranglers
They are better in every aspect compared to the Bridgestone HT's my vehicle came with, they are silent aswell.
Travel long distance often and they handle extremely well even at silly speeds.

The Continentals are very soft. I got less than 30k KM from every set I put on the ML. Got good service from Kumho albeit they were noisy, Yokohama was very good overall too, currently running General Grabber GT. Cannot complain. After 10k KM the tread is still about 80%, they are quiet and still provide a soft ride.

MIL needs new rubber on her ML. Does low mileage, mainly town and some highway. Currently on 255/65R17.

I have not fitted HT tyres in 30 years so have no idea where to start. Cost is a factor, so going for a more common size like 265's not out of the question.

Suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Echoing Waldo's post here. Any suggestions?
I need to replace the Carnival's tires tomorrow (235/55/19). Options currently, based on price, are:
    Continental Cross Contact UHP
    Bridgestone Alenza 001
    General Grabber GT

    Kumhos seem scarce as hell.

    Any other options to consider?

I have the Alenza's on my Koleos. Done about 10k km now.

Nothing but good things to say. The Koleos is not as heavy as the Carnival, but they are showing minimal wear. Quiet, good grip.

They were by far the most affordable "decent" tyres at the time.

I have been offered Bridgestone Dueller HP Sport for the ML for R3500 each.

    That's a very decent price.

    Anyone have feedback on them?

Lombard Tyres are the official agents for Kumho. Not sure if there is one in Centurion. See there is one in Silverton and Gezina

Sitting in Jbay at the moment, so options are limited. I think I'm going for the Conti Crosscontact UHPs. R3250 per tire at Tyremart Uitenhage.
